{UFP} Anthem

Good evening all.

Spread through out the year we have a number of special events for members such as the UFPACs or the birthday celebrations. Now normally at such events we play the canon UFP anthem.

As much as it is a good piece and is canon there aren't really any very good quality versions available. On screen it is only heard once and quite briefly and annoyingly there is plenty of background noise making this a rather poor quality clip when ripped straight from the show, some members of the Star Trek community have attempted to re-create the anthem with varying degrees of success but none ever quite matching the authentic nature of the one on screen.

With that in mind we have decided to ask you the membership what piece you would most like to represent your community.

Below you will find the shortlist created by SFC of various pieces of music that we could use. Please bare in mind that many of these are the full piece of music and for {UFP} events we would most likely be using only a fraction of the entire piece.

I invite you all to listen to the available pieces of music below and then make a selection as to which piece you think is most suitable.

In order to vote for your favourite please send me a Forum PM titled UFP Anthem Vote followed by the number of the piece of music you would like to vote for. The deadline for voting is Monday the 30th of August and the most popular music will be turned in to our official anthem and will be presented at September's UFPAC!

Feel free to discuss your opinions on the pieces below but please don't tell anyone your vote, don't want to spoil the surprise!

If anyone wishes to there is an option when sending a message to receive a receipt, you can do this to ensure your message is received.

If you go to Additional Options below the message text screen in the Miscellaneous Options box the first option is Request a read receipt for this message When that box is checked you will get a receipt for any messages you send as soon as they are viewed.

Certainly getting a good number of votes being cast, pity only about 3 people so far have actually managed to vote correctly

Oh well that little time saver seems to have gone down the drain just keep on voting in the many weird and wacky ways I have seen and I will put it all together definately important as many people as possible vote so we can make sure that the music chosen is what the majority want to have representing them.

In addition to the UFP anthem which doesn't have the best sound quality around, the NATO anthem is the only one which really sounds like an anthem. The others are 'epic' soundtracks and all, but imagining people proudly singing one of them is hard. They simply lack the pride of an anthem in my opinion.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the soundtracks wins though, these days it's common that people simply choose and vote for the coolest things.

Bare in mind that an anthem for the UFP would be quite difficult to achieve any way with the sheer number of different species involved. The canon UFP anthem was never actually heard with any words so it is entirely possible to have the UFP represented by a piece of music that did not actually have words or that had words that would not fit as we would expect. Also the piece that is selected will not be played in full only a brief part of it, much like when most anthems are played the full musical piece is not used instead normally focusing on one recognisable part of it. Whilst the full pieces might not sound like an actual real world anthem I believe that the right part of any of them could sound as if it were part of a 'proper' anthem.

Although I would have liked to have more selections that did feature words I thought we should try to have something unique, there seem to be very few good anthems that would be relevant but would be vague enough that they were not too well known and common place.

The NATO anthem for example although a famous piece of music is not well known as an anthem, infact I would wager most people couldn't name the NATO anthem if asked, probably the same thing with the EU anthem. Because it does not apply to one specific country there are less issues with who the piece represents. For example if we ended up going with 'God save the Queen' non-British or Commonwealth members would probably not feel the music was a good representation of them.

I did search for quite some time to look for music that would fit enough criteria to make it usable.

I actually prefer a non-worded version as well, for the same reasons. Simply pointed out how I feel about the other songs.
Searching for eligible pieces for the {UFP} clearly isn't easy, still those two seem to me as the only ones which fit.

Might I suggest that if the CTV instrumental of "I Believe" is picked, that the full song with vocal be played at the UFPAC?

Actually, the Canadian olympic music does have lyrics to it. This song was played to death on canadian radio stations during the olympics...
