While Data was the XO, he wore Command Red.

So, the color follows the job, not the person.

I'm not trying to be biased here. I really think that going by the top pick, unless it was a paler shade of blue, I don't think blues would work with the makeup they used.

Also you can't say he wouldn't be a commanding officer considering he was the Captain of the Enterprise-E for the longest time.

Like I said, Data technically can function in any position, but being diplomatic and a commanding officer will be difficult; he can't read people well and people have a hard time relating to him. I don't know of Data being the captain of the Enterprise-E.

I thought the function of the position dictated the color of the uniform, not the specialty of the person wearing it. This, obviously, does not apply to temporary assignments.

Por ejempla, Beverly was in Command Red in "All Good Things…" while she was commanding the Pasteur.

Also, Janeway was a Science Officer, but when she was promoted to Captain and given Voyager, she switched to Command Red.

Wasn't he both the Science officer and Operations officer? In which case as the Operations officer he could have worn the Gold instead of the blue looking at it based on Harry on Voyager who pretty much did a lot of the same things Data did.

Right, I think Kim should have been made a Science officer, whereas Data did hold both positions, especially considering his background.

Right, the color follows the job, but Data had two jobs haha. Reminds me of Spock wearing blue though he was first officer. Data wore gold though he held both operations officer and science officer.

And really, then Enterprise D didn't need a science officer. With such a huge crew they had specialists in practically anything they could need.

hahaha that's funny; I see your recent quote as supporting what I'm saying, least the first part. I think it's more like Spock; he wore blue but was still in command. Data wore the color to match his eyes haha and was referred to as "science officer," even if once, it happened. That "likeliness" is based off our interpretation, whereas, everything I'm saying is cited in the show or behind the scenes.

haha right, you were trained in that job, but, you could also do the other job, too. Because he was so well trained, and an android, he could easily hold more than one position on a starship, especially considering all the citations I listed.

When I was in TV, most stressful job ever, I was cross-trained on cameras, audio, and visual effects. Even though I was considered a "camera PA," I could do any position, though I was most comfortable on cameras. It sounds like Data had something similar.

So, he had the training to be a science officer, and even did the science officer's job, we know that behind the scenes that the ONLY reason he didn't wear blue was due to the color clash....but you're still saying he never "officially" had that role?? Did any other science officers step up and Data stayed on ops? Nope, someone replaced him at ops and he served as the science officer. Think of all the times that Picard paired La Forge and Data together for an assignment, engineering and science. Picard didn't pick any other science officer, but Data.

Isn't it possible to be in more then one field (I guess studied) as officer? To my understanding you needed to be super smart to even be in Starfleet, however this is data we are talking about. He could of done each field with ease.
