Ok if we go with "history" the Hur'q attached Qo'noS about 1000 years ago, and they seemed to have their origin in the Gamma Quadrant as they seem to be rather powerful they at one point had to cross the growing Dominion.
Since the Dominion is/was rather ruthless conquering the Gamma Quadrant, it is highly likely that they are responsible for the vanishing of he Hur'q and they might be back with a vengeance against the Dominion.

That’s one thing that’ll need to be made clear. Only sources we have seem to be vague but indicate that they invaded the Klingon home world when they were a pre-warp civilisation, possibly even pre-industrial based on some vague timeline stuff. So how did a bunch of Klingons with only swords and knives defeat a space faring race who can unleash swarms if ships at once. If their ground tactics are anything like their space ones then they must have been like swarms of insects armed with lasers.
If they were pre-warp, I can see the tried-and-true trope of a planetbound civilization driving off an invasion force of a more advanced race coming into play. That generally requires the invaders to be unable to bring in reinforcements, but that may have been the case*. But, firearms and nuclear weapons are shown in the shows to still be effective against technologically advanced targets, and in Voyager there are examples of pre-warp civilizations developing (at least partially due to external contamination, which would be in play here) antimatter and tricobalt weapons, and Klingons seem the type of civilization to develop the MIRV warhead before the electric stove.
*Assuming their extinction roughly coincided with their defeat by the Klingons, it's possible the H'urq civilization was already collapsed, leaving the Klingons to deal with the first wave of invaders and not the main body, or leaving a local garrison without support. For that matter, the H'urq could have been winning or won but were facing a threat elsewhere grave enough for them to abandon their empire to meet it. Regardless, if the Klingons have no information past their homeworld and whatever H'urq forces arrive there, they would understandably assume any retreat was a victory.

Maybe it's similiar to the ancients and wraith in stargate pegasus? The ancients were complety superior and yet they underestimated the enemy and at the end the far more primitive wrath stole their technology ( massive energy generators ) and beat them thought numbers.
Those insects might have been created after the loss with the klingons to soften enemies up since they terrible at warfare.

I kinda get the impression those insects were left as some sort of precursor to a later invasion on many worlds by passing Hur’q ships. Perhaps they realised they couldn’t actually conquer all those places or they were not developed enough to be of worth. Maybe the Hur’q “seed” undeveloped worlds with hidden ships ready to be harvested for resources once they are developed enough to be worth the trouble?

That's deep, man.
So what you're implying is that the bug ships were left behind to wait until the society developed to a level that made their subjugation worthwhile.
Interesting.
If I recall, the cutscene did show the pods emerging from under water, which would make sense if they wanted to avoid accidental discovery as the civilizations expanded and progressed. There could be Hur'q ships at the bottom of Loch Ness and we'd never know.
Interesting.
I think you might have found an out for Cryptic.

Yeah I’m thinking similar idea to the War of the Worlds remake. Those alien craft were buried under the ground for thousands of years until the time was right for earth to be harvested.
Maybe the Hur’q played the long game and got their pieces on the board early (or before it even was a board?) ready to take advantage once civilisations had developed enough to contain the resources they want.
Sort of like some massive galaxy wise super-cicadas waiting to strip the galaxy of resources.

VERY interesting idea! Now the story is even more creepy.
So, I have to vent about that time I played the episode for the second time and selected the deflector as a reward. Again.

The mention of cicadas makes me wonder if the H'urq are like that, where there's a gap between generations and most of the population dies off before the next is born. Every couple thousand years the galaxy just has to deal with them as a generation reaches their adult stage and emerges, goes on a rampage for as long as they last. As the adults die off and put their ships back in hiding with the next generation's eggs or larvae or whatever aboard, the galaxy thinks they're being destroyed in the war.

None of them emerged from Qo'noS, did they? Perhaps they were successful in preventing that, and just inflated that as actually defeating the enemy when something else actually happened to make them "hibernate".

Similarly none of them emerged from Bajor either but yet the Tzeks still wanted to nuke the planet from orbit so something is not as it seems here.
If the protomater bombing campaign is to remove the bugs or the Hur’q from the planets in question then hitting “uninfected” targets seems to make no sense.

Maybe the Hur'q main force is stationed in the Gamma Quadrant, and the Tzeks do not want to give them a base of operation close to the wormhole.

I'd have to pay attention to the dialog again, didn't the last time I played, but wasn't it specifically said the attack on Bajor was because we kept interfering, not because of their campaign against the Drantzuli?
