Yeah, I thought about that too. Even though the ship wasn't designed in the future it would have received countless upgrades especially due to the increase of Klingon aggression. And it's safe to say that due to the stagnation of the Klingon Empire I believe that the Negh'Var's would never be upgraded or refitted.

I think the Klingon Empire will recover and be back stronger than ever. General Martok becoming the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire will revitalize key areas of the Empire and remove some of the corruption which had caused much of the Empire's stagnation. I think we will see more Negh'Vars in the future along with newer, better Klingon starships.

One thing which is a certain; The Klingon Empire took severe losses during its wars with the Cardassians, Federation, and the Dominion during the 2370's. They announced that they would need a full decade to recover to their pre-war strength. It will take some time before they're taking a more active role in the events of the Beta and Alpha Quadrants.

OR, another idea...there's already a hospital ship in the area under fighter escort...we rendezvous with them. This way, we barely go off course, stay on schedule and get him the help he needs in a more timely manner. Even meeting the Defiant halfway at warp 9 is pushing it.

The kids were doing much better now but Captain Wilson was still in sickbay. He overheard a medical technician comment that they are considering contacting the Hippocrates, one of the Olympic Class starships in the sector, for assistance.

We could head towards the hospital ship, rendezvous with them, and then return to our mission after the Defiant arrives to provide escort the rest of the way.

This also changes our JP, it won't be much of a discussion, just an update on the captain. It might not really be JP worthy, we could cover this in a simple log entry and we all respond or play our parts in the transfer, having a send off for the captain and all that.

I like your idea Allan, but I doubt the Defiant will have the medical equipment to keep the captain stable as he is taken back to Federation space. I don't want to sound rude but why don't we have the Defiant run escort duty on the medical ship, that way the captain can get the care needed to keep him alive for a little longer and still be protected?

Right, the Defiant would have to have the needed equipment, probably on loan from DS9, a hospital ship, or replicated. I wouldn't mind the escort duty idea EXCEPT, Starfleet wouldn't send a whole hospital ship just for one captain; all of the patients don't need to be in that kind of situation, unnecessarily. I can see the Defiant being used for the recovery of the captain, but not a whole hospital ship of patients and resources.

A medical ship could be helping us with one of the colonies which are in dire need of medical supplies or maybe it's in the next system over. We will do ONE JP, which will let the senior staff know about the captain and rendezvous, and about our first stop at Dorvan V. I'll provide all the information we're going to discuss and tell the crew about, which everyone pretty much knows already from reading the title post. Commander Kitty will pretty much introduce all this in his character's words and his perspective, an independent, binary system of a G-class star and a K-class star, not associated with Cardassia or the Federation. Home to a colony of Native Americans from Earth, featuring a Habak. The colonists renounced their Federation citizenship and agreed to be governed by the Cardassian government in 2370. The planet's features include at least one continent, as well as mountains and rivers similar to ancient North America, Earth. Since the attack, crops have not grown to their full potential, due to radiation exposure. Colonists suffer from malnutrition, growing the minimum amount of crops necessary to their survival. Nausicaans raid remaining crops and torment the colonists for sport. Additionally, our mission is to find the weapons cargo, sort of like a treasure hunt. We'll see how that goes, justifying that Starfleet doesn't want it falling into the wrong hands, pirates and whatever, which we'll obviously run into haha

Commander Kitty will tell the crew that first mission of humanitarian aid to Cardassian colony worlds, located en route to unexplored space in the Alpha Quadrant. Our mission being to drop off supplies, including portable matter replicators and one industrial replicator for reach colony. Our goal is to temporarily help with making these colonies self-sufficient as part of the Cardassia Union's Reconstruction.

He'll remind us that, as representatives of Starfleet Command, we are to meet with the colonists and their leaders, earning the proverbial "hearts and minds" by taking 2 weeks per colony, to give Federation aid and hospitality, helping the injured, and creating new homes and infrastructures, in addition to any general relief efforts.

Security and our diplomatic officer can chime in that Cardassian space is teeming with Orions, Nausicaans, and Ferengi; they are taking advantage of the logistical chaos of these Cardassian colonies. Reports of Orions enslaving colonists, Nausicaans raiding ships, and Ferengi profiting by exploiting colonists, due to the desperate situation.

Docs, you guys say his status and how bad off he is, how bad we need to get to the hospital ship.

Commander Kitty will remind us that the Ares is expected to take all lawful steps necessary to safeguard the colonists through both negotiation and/or defense.

Commander Kitty will also be moving Teriir to first officer while Kitty becomes Captain Kitty. We should have Admiral William Ross appear on screen to give the promotions in real-time during the conference.

At the end of the conference meeting, the now Captain Kitty will announce that we'll have a send off for the captain while he's transfering to the Hippocrates. We shouldn't have to do JP on that one, we'll just write our responses as it happens, as usual.

The rest of the crew, engineering, ops, including me, will chime in our 2 cents if we want for the story. You guys all put your comments, reactions, questions together and I'll splice the characters all together in one JP.

Even if they have the power, they wouldn't send a hospital just for one person. They should have good offensive capabilities, but it wouldn't be worth the risk. If we play it that the hospital ship is already nearby, like Astro is saying, and under fighter escort, everything makes sense in the world.

In my head, there is a heavy Starfleet presence in Cardassian space, similar to what must have happened to the Romulans in 2387. Come to think of it, with the Romulans/Cardassians out of the way, the Klingons barely recovering, the UFP is going to be the superpower of the Alpha Quadrant.

I thought of that, too, but would a hospital ship go all the way out there for a colony? Wouldn't it be in a more populated system? A hospital ship could alter their course while we alter ours, just slightly, for the rendezvous. Nothing to it.

I've done some research on the Olympic Class starship and will share some information I have dug up. There isn't much to go on with the Memory Alpha so a lot of this is subject to fan speculation;

The Olympic Class starship is a mobile hospital and biology research facility which entered service by 2365. An unnamed ship of this class was responsible for the rescue of the survivors of the Battle of Wolf 359, leaving the battlefield abandoned by the time the Federation's Flagship, the Enterprise - D, arrived on the scene. Ships of this class saw some action during the Dominion War as relief vessels, providing much needed medical assistance to wounded officers who had to abandon their ships. After the war, the Olympic Class starship became a common sight within the outlying systems of the Federation. This allows the ships to be in locations where they can swiftly respond to the medical needs of surrounding planets, where hospitals have yet to be constructed.

At 330m long and weighing 640,000 metric tons, these starships carry a crew of 350, including 100 medical personnel. The ship has 23 decks, including 4 within its sphere shaped primary hull fully dedicated to medical bays. There is a unique mark on the exterior of all Olympic Class starships to indicate their devotion to medical needs and are universally recognized as humanitarian ships. The personnel on board are all required to understand basic field medicine to ensure the most care can be provided to patients. The medical facilities include enough room to effectively manage as many as 300 patients at a time while the evacuation limit reaches 1300. The Olympic Class also makes use of a number of large biology labs to further study anatomy of various species and also analyze pathogens to help find cures. They could be further outfitted for roles in disaster relief, planetary evacuations, and humanitarian aid missions. The ship has one small shuttlebay with enough room for 4 shuttles and 6 shuttle pods.

The Olympic Class starship is very limited in its weaponry, featuring only 2 torpedo launchers and 4 phaser arrays. Both torpedo launchers are of the photon variety with one facing forwards and one aft. The starship has fairly powerful shields for its size but lacks armor is not very maneuverable, its maximum speed at Warp 9.2. It requires an escort when traveling into potentially hostile territory and is often partnered with a Norway Class starship to ensure its security. The Norway Class' slightly higher speed, good evacuation limit, and much heavier weaponry made it an excellent choice for this role.

R'Turan's lithe form hurried through the Promenade of Deep Space Nine, heading for the docking pylon where the U.S.S. Ares was docked. He had express orders from Admiral William Ross - commander of the Ninth fleet - to transfer to the Ares, to take the position of Executive Officer, as the station of first officer of the Ares was still unfilled. Due to the USS Ares being part of the Semper Exploro Project, this required R'Turan to fill the empty station of executive officer.

Hurrying towards the deserted docking port, R'Turan quickly entered, sprinting through the hallway towards the tubolift, and halting in front of it. He, commander R'Turan, had made it to the USS Ares. Quickly pushing the button to call the turbolift, R'Turan entered as soon as the doors opened, keeping his tail close to his body, as he had some nasty experiences with closing turbolift doors in the past.

Since Admiral Ross assigned R'Turan (aka Captain Kitty) to the Ares, it would make a lot of sense if he was the one to hand out the promotions.
