That's quite a selfish argument for censorship of games though, why punish everyone else for the ignorance of the few? You do have other tools at your disposal anyway, such as not allowing a computer to use the internet, or watching over them while they use a computer. If you have let your 12 year old have their own computer, connected to the internet, that's a decision you have made, the solution there is to not let your child have their own private computer if you don't want them looking at things you don't want them to. You would have a family computer, that you control, which would mean if you wanted, you could remove Steam from it, and do so many other things.
All that said though, Steam certainly isn't the problem, since there are web browsers, and if you can't manage parental controls on a single computer, then you have bigger problems, because there's a lot more porn on the wider internet! Any censorship would have to happen at a parental level, not something individual companies are responsible for, because those companies have a large adult customer base, who should be able to play adult games.
If it's a concern for you, I would suggest looking into how you can use parental controls on a computer as a whole.

I'm all for limiting what I and my family are exposed to in entertainment in general, but believe that if ratings are in place it is my job to be aware and control what we see...not the game company or any distribution platform. The parental controls are in place to make my job easier, and I appreciate that they have provided tools to do so. Beyond that, don't censor.
That being said, I'm going to put in a plug for learning parental controls and using them...but also stay involved and see what is going on personally. This includes on your kids' cell phones, which many carriers provide. Recently, I discovered that my daughter was texting with random men online and heading down the route of putting herself in a very dangerous situation. I had parental controls in place and kept a fairly close eye on what she used her phone for...and she still managed to get in trouble.
Everyone is ok now and it's in the hands of law enforcement, but it was a wake-up call. Apologies if I derailed this thread a bit.

Absolutely. Platforms shouldn't have to limit the content available to everyone else because of irresponsible kids or uninformed parents. Steam requires users to verify their age before it will display certain content. If kids are going to lie about their age, that's not Steam's problem.

I've never heard of huniepop but as soon as I looked for it on steam I had to re-submit my D.O.B via the drop down menus, and this is happening even when I'm of age.
In my opinion, that's the best precaution any non-PG game can take. "Kids" (pre-teens) in general should not be exposed to social media, gaming, etc - let alone games with gore and sex. The young mind processes things differently and its best not to develop a "dopamine" for gaming from a very young age.
So, I'm not sure why these game devs of mature genre are being targeted and not the parents instead lol.

I was allowed to play games which contained various adult themes when I was younger, my parents knew what games I was playing, and if I wanted GTA, my mum would buy it for me, knowing full well what it was. I have talked with her about this in recent years, and she told me she did it because she felt I was able to handle the themes within them. And I mean, hasn't done me any harm, but obviously it's up to parents to decide what they feel they can expose their children to.
Of course, things were also different for me growing up than it is for children now, the 90s don't feel that far away, but the technological difference, and even social difference is quite great. Social media wasn't really a thing when I was a child, nor were smartphones, I mean, colour phones were quite recent when I hit secondary school!
I also used to go outside a lot more when I was younger...

Yikes! Now you're making me feel really old. I remember the birth of home computer. Sinclair Spectrums, Commodore 64's. You know, the ones where a game would screech at you for five minutes while it loaded. Those days in the UK we only had three TV channels and virtually no exposure to swearing or anything sexually explicit. I do seem to remember getting hold of a bootleg copy of Reanimator on VHS and was frightened by the gore in it until my uncle, who worked at Pinewood studios, took me in and showed me how they did special effects. After that I was never bothered about it again. I think the key to educate children according to the level you think that is appropriate. Some kids are amazingly mature for their age and can handle more than others. Ultimately, it's the parent's call.

Now, this is a great topic to debate!
I hate to be a fence sitter but truly I am undecided. I understand that for a majority of games these 'interesting' images and animations help sell the game (Hence the seller's phrase). And in the world of business, anything that helps sell the product will be considered. The problem I have with it is that we are seeing an increase in it. I believe that developers are starting to overuse it.
The biggest concern I have, and as stated by many of you is the impact it has on the younger kids. If its appropriate for a setting, where it makes sense (Such as costume design and whatnot) then I'm fine but if it's just blatant and unnecessary than I have a problem. What impression does it have on the younger children when seeing, mainly women being dressed up in something that only covers a fraction of there body? It, in my opinion, sets an idea in their heads of how to treat women when they grow up. We can already see the effects taking form.
I guess that's my stance, I'm okay if a game or media use it responsibly and respectfully, I start getting frustrated when the core of the game is just blatant sellouts.
As I said that's just my stance, I won't hold it against you if you have a different opinion and I hope that you will do the same.
