Wait. How can Viacom use the Picard character in the hybrid universe when CBS owns the character rights?
Okay, it's BECAUSE the character is in the hybrid universe and is substantially changed from the existing Picard. So... What we'll end up with is a name and a face that we know doing things and interacting with people and places that are COMPLETELY different from who, what, and where we understand Jean-Luc Picard to be.
TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, the motion pictures, and all of the canon publications will be discarded and we will go from Disco to Picard 2.0. No, that's not it either. There was something about Spock and Vulcan and Romulus in there. Something about merging parts of TOS, Kelvin, and Disco and using that bastardization as the basis of a whole NEW canon.
Here's the question:
Why not just do the Enterprise F with all new people? Or show the destruction of the Enterprise E with all hands lost, then build a new one. That seems to be the easiest, best way to do new Trek. We could see crew training and selection at SFA, BOff selection, first meet-ups, learn about the changes that have happened since Nemesis. Then we'd get a look at the final stages of construction of the new ship. The F is an Oddy, right? GREAT ship! Throw some ablative plating on it, stick a few Borg in engineering, some Xindi-Aquatics in tanks for navigation, and a detachment of Klingons as away team shock troops. BOOM! We could have Romulans and Vulcans living together, Andorians, Tholians, and Telarites, OH MY! Add an android bartender and we're golden.
I've said it before, and after reading up on - and listening to things about - it, I'll say it again.

I think the new Picard series is probably going in the direction of animation... (similar to Star Wars: The Clone Wars) IF it is animated, im sure it will be great! either way PICARD IS BACK LOL and you know that somehow the Borg will be around … I just hope the series doesn't kill Picard off.. it was a big disappointment the way Generations killed Capt Kirk off... that was so wrong.. LOL
but anyway I'm really looking forward to it!
