Ok, so side question. I've never flown escorts or any other ship that can use an experimental weapon. I'll be buying the Lafayette when I get home from work so I could use some suggestions as to which experimental weapon to use. I remember seeing one that looked like it fired a bolt of lightning and seared my eyeballs so if it's subtle as well, so much the better. So any recommendations?

For Exp Weapons you've got a bit of a mixed bag to choose from, and none are cheap really.

Ion Gun/Lightning Blaster - is the default freebie on we all get from the dilithium store. It's pretty crap tbh and looks ridiculous when fired from the usual type of ship mounting it as the gfx are way too big and "loud". You're probably better off not slotting a gun at all if this is your only choice as the extra power drain is less helpful than the pitiful extra damage you get.

Flak Cannon - From the Competitive Rep. It's the next cheapest and most readily available one as we can all get it. Not amazing damage output but it can help close up with things like mines, torps, fighters, Hurq swarms etc.

Voice of the Prophets - from the Bajoran Interceptor, if you do have it this is actually pretty decent. Not terribly impressive visuals and it's sort of like a weaponized tractor beam/shockwave/shotgun i guess. Not quite sure how to describe it really!

Plogeston (sp?) launcher - from the Maquis Raider. Apparently pretty good, acts like a plasma/fire shotgun and it looks pretty darn awesome from the runs I've seen it used in.

Protomater Sheller - from the Tzek Escort - another pretty sound choice and one of the best rated Exp Weapons by the DPS guys i think. It shoots at an area of space though, not tracking a target so some tactical use is needed.

Railgun - from the allied escorts (Cat-scorts & Reman Warbird), has some pretty good DPS and looks fairly good too. Not too overpowered in terms of visuals.

Dual Warhead Launchers - Miradorn Raider (EXPENSIVE), a pretty cool looking weapon than launches what looks like a nuke going by the explosion you get. Not buffed by torp/kinetic gear though sadly but the damage output it fairly good if you're spec'd into kinetic or shield bypassing damage and have a way to make that work. Currently my go to choice for my torp boats simply for looks and feel.

Slamshot Magnetic Artillery - Amarie Heavy Escort (ULTRA EXPENSIVE!), not gonna recommend this simply because of price alone. It does have a serious impact to it which is sadly lost in most instances due to the inherent -40 accuracy penalty even at Epic level. Not worth it unless you have loads of cash and can mitigate the -Acc issue somehow.

Alliance Hypercannon - Allied pilot escorts (Andorian etc), it's basically a gun that uses all the 3 main factions damage type (phaser, plasma, disruptor) at the same time so is buffed by any console that affect those types. The leaves it pretty flexible really and would allow use on a fairly mixed number of builds. I'm notsure of damage potential and i don't see it used many places either sadly.

The Vanguard JH radier and Xindi Sistruus Escort have Exp Weapons too but i'm not familiar with them so can't comment on either.

I've not got experience with some hence being unable to comment on the VJ'H and Xindi ones. Other i either own or messed about with on Tribble, or have been in test runs with friends using them.

100M should get you somewhere but the cheapest one right away i'd say is the Flak Cannon as it's rep based. It's a real pity there is no crafted one as that would be a nice little thing for people, or could be bought on the Ex.
I'd not suggest buying a lockbox ship just for the one gun, but if you think you can make use of the traits, consoles, or ship itself then i guess why not.

I've been using the Jem'Hadar one, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. Yes, it is single Target, which is a little bit of a downer, but the shield debuff is nice.

In the end I went with the Competitive rep weapon as I had the marks to spare.

I've only played with ship enough to get it to tier 4 mastery but she's a beast. I'll post up my build when I get some time over the weekend as I'm sure it can be improved.

Any ideas when they're releasing the fleet version?

The fleet version has been temporarily pulled due to a pricing issue, but it should hopefully reappear again soon.
