So I realise that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I wonder if anyone has graphics settings that make the game look especially nice?

I'm not averse to plug ins either but the last one I tried, I couldn't get it to work.

I guess I'm kinda spoiled with being able to just crank everything up to max and forget it, can't really suggest anything.. Short of using an ENB (which most likely will get you banned or something), not much can be done with an Online game like STO.

Only tip I have to hand is to try turning the ambient occlusion off and see what it looks like. I tend to disable it, as personally I thought it made the game look, for want of a better term, dirty.

Good advice Petrarch, thanks. Imma try and alter the brightness and glow settings to see if I can get it a little sharper.

I have the settings to max and don't really notice any performance issues. But some places the game looks amazing and others it looks like crap. A lot of the textures are nearly a decade old, especially on older maps like the early episodes so there's only so far you can push it. And a lot of the older ship models, plus nearly all the costume/body/hair textures are seriously shoddy due to being ancient too.

That said you can get some amazing looks if you find a nice new map with some great lighting. And if you want that epic feel to your ship and the combat then change the FOV to 20, that can have an amazing affect if a little daunting at first!

But if you're trying to make the game look like some of the screenshots you see from people like KurumiMori♥♥♥♥a then remember that she puts a shed load of post processing into her shots and uses a massive resolution as well.

So true about old textures. The new stuff get nice high poly and the old, forgotten. I wish it was a universal poly/texture upgrade but that will likely never come. Just easier to make the new stuff good/modern.

I have a REALLY crappy graphics card, so I am at the other end of the spectrum. I have everything turned off or set to low. I have no choice. Every once in a while, I'll want to take a screencap, so I'll crank everything up. The hit on my system is immense. I take my shots and I return to my 8-bit world.

One thing I have heard repeatedly is that Lighting 2.0 should never, under any circumstances, be turned on. I'm not sure what you need to be able to turn it on, but my card won't allow it, even at max settings.

Other than that, I say play with it until you find your happy place. You're not going to break anything.
