    On a side note I thought Saul Rubinek (Fajo) did a fantastic acting performance here.

    Does Data's programming work to save SF personell from their own moral quandary over the execution, or anything else, in any other episode?

    Data knows the Federation has a justice system that would surely handle a murderer.

    I understand Data reasoning to kill him for his own freedom, but not for protecting potential victims or moral dilemmas.

    Then for Data to lie about it, throws my head canon for a loop. Data shouldn't lie to Starfleet officers to protect himself from possible incrimination.
