Personally I would take the reviews with a grain of salt. In a lot of ways I would say with the reviews it's a lot like Mass Effect Andromeda, in that while Andromeda had it's flaws it didn't deserve as much heavy handed criticism that it got. Not to mention I've seen a fair share of reviews that omitted things simply because they hate EA and others that were made before today commenting on bugs in the game that Bioware had already confirmed had been fixed for the launch patch, which had they did a simple google search would have told them or simply read the patch notes. Others however can be fair, Angry Joe's while had his criticism of the game at least ammended his after Bioware released the patch and said that the patch fixed a lot of the issues he had complained about so those are a few things to be aware of when it comes to reviews.


As for the game, I think it kind of depends on what your expectation is of it. If you are expecting your typical Bioware game it's not going to be that, as for me I'm thoroughly enjoying it, it's certainly a fun game to play and I've put at least 12 hours into it today so far. Bug wise I've only really experienced a little server lag but nothing too bad and not consistently.

The story is actually pretty good, the voice acting is great for most characters, a lot of the story and character interaction takes place in Fort Tarsis where you're by yourself mostly, when you're out in the world there are some cutscenes in missions but it's pretty much fly out, fight bad guys, complete the mission and back to the Fort, you're bog standard stuff, if you've played Destiny you get the idea.

I haven't reached endgame yet but from what I know of it once you get through the main story there's not the greatest amount to do outside of Freeplay and world events and the stronghold, but I've done several world events in the space of about 40 minutes I guess while in freeplay so there is always stuff to do and to be honest it's just fun to head out into freeplay and fly around exploring the world, the transition from flight to ground to the underwater segments is seamless and fun as hell.

If you follow Bioware and the dev's on social media or watch the livestreams it's clear that they have plans for the game going forward and are constantly listening to feedback. Bug fixes get tended to pretty quickly or at least are being worked on, the next big patch is due in a few weeks in March most likely when the first new content is due to be added.

Personally I like it and am having fun but if you're hesitant and can spare the $15 for Access Premier you could play it for a month and see what you think, at the very least I would definitely say it's worth that price.

Microtransaction wise it is, at least for now cosmetic only and assuming they stick with it that's fine, it's not really in your face and while everything is purchasable with in game coins you can earn, it's pretty clear and of course it is that buying shards with real money is what they want based on the coins I've earned so far in comparison to the prices in the store. As for the pricing of the shards, it's not too bad, if you've ever played SWTOR they pretty much copied the pricing structure there and the store isn't really in your face about itself either which is good.

Overall it's a fun game and I'm enjoying so far and I think it's worth a shot, at the very least it's worth the $15 for Origin Premier to try it for a month and see what you think as I think you'll get your money's worth out of it, at least that's my opinion with just over 12 hours with it.

I pre-ordered it as a birthday present to myself last year and honestly, besides a few bugs (let's be honest, games gonna have bugs) I am rather happy with the game, I am also quite surprised that I haven't experienced any lag playing with people yet.

Ignore the reviews, or at the very least take them with a grain of salt, it's quite fun and enjoyable =)

Agreed, I've been having a lot of fun.

It's a beautiful game, and I actually like the characters (which is more than I could say for Mass Effect Andromeda).
All the snarking between Owen and the Freelancer is great

I'm just about to get to lvl 8 and unlock my second Javelin (taking 20 hrs to download probably put me behind most of the pack that started on release day...)

Despite the criticism, I think the actual story is interesting. The cinematic that plays for the

Fall of Freemark

is great.

The gameplay is pretty fun (I'd like if there were a wider variety of mission types). Battles are chaotic, but I can see how there's room for tactics by an organized team. Overall it's pretty fun.

LMG down the Shields, then Ice Shards + Lightning Strike AOE, probably one of the best combos I've found.
