Writing is clearly an issue in Discovery, at least in my eyes, if they could fix it up, it could be so much better! I really want to like Discovery.

I believe they are taking all feedback into consideration, all while expanding the appeal, and next week's episode will bridge that further.

I have a feeling people are going to be really upset with the new Picard series when they realize it won’t take place on a federation ship, it won’t be episodic, and it won’t be TNG part 2.

That would be the apex of disapointment. Another soap-trek opera out of focus...

I think it's just Trek is being made in a different format these days and people will have to accept that the old pre-Nemeis show standard is not ever gonna come back.

Actually, no, we do not have to accept it. We can choose not to watch the shows and allow them to fade into oblivion as each is canceled.

I really enjoyed this episode. I suppose I might be less picky when it comes to my expectations for Star Trek though?

I found it exciting and it's left me really curious what direction the show will take going forward. I definitely get the opinion that they needlessly force Michael into almost every scenario, but I'm starting to get really into many of the characters aboard Discovery. I'll happily admit that both seasons have had their fair share of rocky episodes though - much like many other Trek series. I get that some people will never properly get into the show, nor should they feel pressured to do so. It's just the same as many fans not enjoying JJTrek, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise or Voyager for any number of reasons. People like what they like and that's awesome. I just so happen to fall into the crowd that really looks forward to each new episode of Discovery.

Also, I adore those damn TOS uniforms.

Damn right. That 2019 Enterprise bridge looks incredible, actually every aspect of the Enterprise looks 10/10.

Which reminds me, the one thing I wasn't overly keen on was the emergency bridges telescopically extending between Discovery and Enterprise. Something about the effect just looked off.

That didn't bother me too much. I mean it would have been better if it was just 1 or 2...4 was a bit much.

Accept it or not accept it, the bottom line is that the people that dislike Discovery and this new style are in a vocal minority. We cannot forget that there is an entirely new generation of Star Trek fans that grew up with the JJ movies. The age demographic that CBS is going after are not the people that grew up on TOS or TNG but the people in their 20's that saw Star Trek 09 in their early teens.

Modern cable/streaming television shows are serialized and cinematic. CBS is just keeping up with the times.

Every star trek show has tried something different, this one is just a little more extreme

TOS - Episodic, Got it all started
TNG - Episodic, New Crew, new enterprise
DS9 - Episodic, Station instead of ship, darker, more religion, etc
VOT - Episodic (with a series long arc), Lost in space star trek style
ENT - Episodic (tried a season arc, then mini arcs in S4), Birth of the federation
DSC - Serialized, single character featured, visuals updated to 201/19 standards

Picard - Serialized, rouge crew, no longer starfleet, etc...

Section 31 - Who knows!!??!

My main point is, there is a Star Trek for everybody, not just one type of fan.

when Iwatch each show I do mt best to forget tha tit is trewk if I can do that then the show isnt that bad biut then I keep getting reminded that it is Star Trek the see the many things that dont fit I mean the Shuttles look allot like( at leastf rom what remember) the same ones off of DS9 also the holographic stuff in TOS they didnt have that. anyway I am going to do my best not to complain so much about what is so wrong with Discovery and try to enjoy what I like even if it isnt right .

After finally getting a chance to sit down and watch the episode.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Enterprise was on point. They got the look and the feel of the original ship down while updating it to a modern standard. Before this show debuted I was one who was angry about updated visuals. Damn them for updating an iconic franchise.

However I eventually came to realize that we are not living in 1966 anymore. Ask yourself, if Gene Roddenberry had the budget & ability to make TOS today. Do you think the TOS Enterprise would look the way it did? I would venture to guess that no it wouldn't. For all I know it wouldn't look the way it does on Discovery. That is the beauty of hypothetical scenarios. To quote Spock, "Infinite Diversity In Infinate Combinations."

The one thing I appreciated the most was the episode showing the crew coming together and showing their love, dedication, and duty to each other. This is something that we haven't seen very much of in prior episodes. This Season has been a vast improvement over the first. As it ends I am optimistic about the future of Discovery and her crew.

Even Michael "Wesley" Burnham. lol I know the show is about her. I just hope the other characters get a little more in the way of screen time moving forward.

I would like to see your facts and figures that prove those who dislike the show are a minority. The only "cheerleading" I see is from CBS and affiliates, not from the actual fan base. From what I see from the fan base, that group is much larger than you have allowed yourself to believe.

I do not believe the show can survive with just the 20-somethings for two reasons:

1. The 20-something demographic will not give the show high enough ratings to continue; and
2. That generation will jump to "the next new thing" once it comes along, decreasing the viewership even more.

Their only chance for survival is to find a way to appease the largest audience possible, and their current path is NOT the way.

That being said, the Star Trek Reddit, the Star Trek Discovery Reddit are predominately positive. The Trek BBS has also had a ton of positive remarks. Yes, there are negatives about every episode and frankly about every series, not just Discovery. The critics also like it.

This community likes it. Just look at the polls at the top of each one of this episode reviews this season. More people like it than dislike it almost every week.

Now if you believe some of those YouTube reviewers you would think that everyone hates this show and nobody watches it but frankly they have about as many sources as I do.

Also, I’m not saying just 20 year olds are their target, like most shows their target is the 18-49 year old group. The point I was trying to make was is there are a ton of fans that came onboard with JJ Trek and it seems to me this new series is more for them and there is nothing wrong with that IMO.

hmm I am not sure about that .and I am noit exactly sure how it would work but from my point of view I think that ratings come from people watching the more people watching the more advertising and the more money the network makes. on a subscription based channel that people say watch 5 shows and say they dont like discovery now they are off to a different channel to watch something else which just might make a few people unsubscribe from that channel or network . I am just going by allot of scifi show I loved but becasue the ratings were not as high as other show ratings they canceled those shows which really annoyed me
