Mostly i know its essentially up to my dissension but i want you know, for its "stats" and purpose as a Tac to fly one, not based on your opinions but if it be worth it as a ship to use in game with its stats and abilities and things you can do with it.


The subject is, i "want" to save up for a Universe Temporal Heavy Dreadnought Cruiser, but i did my research and this is what i found,

the easiest way to a garentee to get the ship is to buy in on the exchange under the name "Special Requisition Pack - 26th Century Heavy Dreadnought Tier 6 Ship", but in order to get enough EC i would need to get 70k zen witch comes to around $140, now im looking at the cost on the exchange and i see this



for what it can do is it really worth that much EC? also is there a cheaper way to get it?

what are your guys feedback on this?

To be honest, I've given up on getting the rare lockbox ships. I've easily spent more than $300 on lockboxes over the years since they've come out and haven't gotten anything that's worth more than 5mil EC from them.

So to answer your question, IMHO.

I don't think it's worth the 1bil price mark, it's a peacocking ship more than anything and it underperforms in comparison to the Intel Dreadnought Cruiser (Vengeance class) which is 200-250m (1/4 of its price).

If you have a serious itch on getting the ship, work towards it and get it. But if you want a serious assessment on it, it's far from being worth the 1bil price.

The Kelvin Timeline Dreadnought is an excellent ship to buy.

Is the ship good? Yes. People who fly it and own it have told me it's a great ship to have.

Is it worth the price? That's where I won't answer your question because that infact becomes my opinion.

I'm assuming you know your own finances and what might be a priority to me does not have to necessarily be a priority for you - so make your own call here.

Just one thing to keep in mind, this will be limited to that one character in you account, where as c-store ships are account wide unlocks.

One also has to consider the use of a ship. Is it something we need to complete a certain level of content in the game? Is it a prestige product that we want to own to feel good about in comparison to what others have? Is its performance compared to other alternatives significant enough?

I can only answer those questions from my own perspective.

To me, no T6 ship is required to complete any content in STO. STO, compared to other similar games, is an extremely simple game. There is no challenge basically. Added to that, as someone said in fleet chat the other day. "After a few years in the game, all that remains is to chase the DPS dragon" and that kind of min/max metagame isnt for everyone.

Personally i dont care about E-peen virtual prestige. So i would never choose a ship based on rarity created by virtual scarcity.

The third question however matters to me. Is the actual performance good enough to warrant the cost? But this gets trumped by the answer to the first question. What do i need more power for anyway?

So in the end what it comes down to for me is the "Rule of cool". I go for what i find cool, even if that means a non meta ship with a non DPS optimal barbie build. Ill make it work, then fly around feeling good about the pretty fireworks and putting all the "wtf kind of n00b sh1t fit is that?" pug comments on /ignore I do DPS optimal meta fits in EVE Online. A game with actual challenge where such things matters for content. So i got all bases covered.

Would i farm 1 billion for a lockbox ship? Not specifically. Im farming daily anyway and over time those EC will pile up as i run out of traits and whatever to spend them on. New content will keep being released during this time so what i feel like spending my resources on might also change. Our interest in the game will wax and wane as well. So ill most likely end up spending my resources on what T6 Cstore ships i already have and not set up unrealistic goals that would block me from spending EC for my entire time in the game. And thats coming from someone who isnt alien to the concept of dropping large wads of real $ for virtual items. I have spent 4,997.75 USD on Star Citizen alone so Im sitting on a decent hobby budget monthly that i gladly use, if i feel its worth it.

Thats my 5 ECs worth.

No ship is worth that price, what I do is to buy the R&D Packs as much as I can wait until the event is over and than sell them.

One pack in general goes for 15 Million EC so you would need 74, getting Promotion Ships is a game of waiting the one thing you should never ever do is open Boxes and hope you will win.

I sell all the R&D Promo boxes I can get hold of, and I only ever open lockboxes when I needed the lobi for something (like a 200 lobi console) a few times while getting lobi I have had the T6 infinity ship box (I will only open infinity boxes too) but this is my new rule to myself as the gamble is just way too much

From where I'm sitting, it is not worth a billion EC. Having said that... If I had a spare billion EC sitting around, I would buy one. If nothing else, other people tend to screencap them.

It's not a ship you see every day. I mean, unless you own one.

If you want one, work for it and get one. If you want to buy Zen, then buy Zen. Just know that whatever you decide to do, that ship is massively overpriced.

k from all the feedback im getting(thank you btw) it seems it a over priced sports car that can tank, but not dish out amazing dps, that and being over priced. im glad i came to you guys and asked got your alls input on it, youve changed my mind on buying it, and instead will work towards just a fleet ship for now, the idea of this ship was mostly i loved the look and how big it is if it was cheaper say 200mil or so id buy it, but you guys are right its way to over priced to even bother.

A ship is only really worth what you feel happy paying for it. Some want DPS, other want a canon look, and others again just pick what looks best visually.

So there's not really ever a true value to any of the ships in game. If you fall in love with flying a 2M EC Mirror Escort and that is all the ship you ever want then that is absolutely worth it to you.
Or you might feel proud to have saved up for that 1B EC Temporal Dreadnought, even though it doesn't work as well as many other cheaper ships you know it was earned with hard work and savvy control of your EC funds; it might even be the one ship you've always loved in Star Trek.

I'd say if you're in it simply for combat performance then you're probably better looking at cost-effective options for ships, or more specifically certain items and ships with traits needed to optimize your build. There are a LOT of very cheap ships that are incredibly powerful and potent war machines, no need to spend billions.

If you want visuals, well that's just up to how much you think a costume piece is worth. Same with canon looks.

thats exatly why i got the buran lol i love it too, its a very fun ship and plan to get the fleet version as my main ship now.
