I can see where he's coming from. With that said it really depends on what you're looking for. Some sci-fi by nature just doesn't focus on the whole political intricacies like Star Trek does because those types of conflicts don't serve the story the creators are trying to tell. I mean, Star Wars is distinct from Trek and awesome for different reasons. I go to Star Wars when I want fantasy sci-fi, not deep political maneuverings between factions, although it can occur in the universe it's typically not what Star Wars is about. Would Star Wars have been any better if it'd basically been Vietam in space + space wizards? I don't know, maybe. But in that case, if the whole rebel alliance-empire conflict was just some side proxy war than that would've diminished Luke's whole role in the story as the chosen one don't you think? The stakes wouldn't have been as high.

The thing about star wars we are seeing one conflict of many. There are so many stories that could be told about it and there are many side stories out there. Now with the introducing of a Mandalorian tv show, we might see a different point of views of what is going on in the galaxy besides the annoying force users controlling how the galaxy functions. I myself am tired of the Skywalker storyline and/or force users in general hehe. Watching the video I don't know if he grasps or did much research into star wars. No mention of some key ideas about the political structure of Star Wars as he gave the Trek. Things Wars nerds would know about and/or thought about haha.
When people make a debate about this they aren't thinking about the political background, usually, why each has its strong points, but I always say we are comparing a TV show vs a Movie. Yup, sure there are Star Trek movies but really it just feels like an episode from the series, at least with TNG or Orginal Series. Now when JJ made these new Treks people didn't like it as much. Very flashy like Star Wars, so here we are with the debate within Star Trek.
