I have a burning question when it comes to the Prime Trek universe, which is on a United Earth do citizens distinguish between regions by their old countries? I know Picard says he's from France when he's captured, Archer says about England reaching the World Cup finals and Burnham talks about Georgiou coming from Malaysia but equally Spock refers to "Old Britain" in TOS and the US is only ever referred to by its states (although this happens today sometimes I suppose).
I know in Kelvin Britain has the Union Jack flying so I guess countries are still a thing there.
The reason I ask isn't because I want there to still be countries, I want nothing more than for Earth to become united, but just because I'm curious as to how people refer to where they're from if they no longer exist. I'm also curious as to how sporting events occur if there are no countries to represent. In fact the entire logistical operation of a United Earth fascinates me but I can't really find much about it.
It's interesting that no other planets in the universe have specific regions like Earth does, well does now anyway, but I suppose planets have to be unified to join the Federation so that might explain why.

The way I've perceived it is that the whole planet is governed by the planet government of United Earth. Countries still exist with their government bodies restructured to operate as technically how State Governments did under the country itself previously. This is just how I see it from the bird eye view perspective, never really put more thought in the finer details.
