It looks like the "Streaming" cold war is coming to an end and the actual Stream War is starting to really pick up. I've had debates with many of you on the merits of CBS starting their own service. A lot of people attribute it to greed, I personally attribute it to survival. Networks that do not protect their properties and get into the streaming game will die over the next decade. I feel like the days of free terrestrial television are coming to an end. Quality programming will come at a cost and people will need to start making choices.

The smart thing would be for the networks to have a jump on and off approach to paying, much like Netflix and Crave in Canada. People won't want to pay for six or seven (or more) streaming services at the same time, they'll just binge what they want to watch on one, cancel it for a while and switch to a new streaming service. If the Networks make that switch as easy as possible, they'll be winners. If they're like Amazon Prime and ask for a full year payment up front, they may lose out on casual customers.
Either way, interesting times are ahead. Hopefully the networks will develop their own apps for smart tv's to make it even easier for people to access their channels.
