Hey guys, just a quick question for you.
I've been investigating the modding scene for DOW3, to see if it is redeemable. There are many rework mods out there now, so I'm looking to try some.
But I was hoping to see if anyone would be interested in trying it out, if I succeed in my quest of finding a rework mod that actually makes the game worth playing over the others
Because personally, I loved the drop pod and similar units effect, where they smashed down on the floor and honestly the core game was brilliant in my eyes. But they tried to turn it into a moba, and ended up making a horrible game mode, and there were nowhere near enough things (especially the big shiny pew pew toys) on the battlefield, both units and buildings.
So was this the same issue for you guys, or was it something else. And if it was this issue, would you fancy giving it another go with some rework mods, such as stuff like huge build caps, reworked economy and better game modes?
Cheers guys,
Lars

Like you mentioned, they tried to make it into something that it wasn't. The original DOW was an RTS and an awesome game, all of the sequels such as Dark Crusade and Soulstorm only added other factions. Along comes DOW2 and they changed up the game so that you're only using a couple of Space Marine units in the campaign. Gone was the base building and resource gathering that players had become familiar with but there was more emphasis on tactics and positioning.
Then comes DOW3. Units no longer felt like they had any armour as the enemy tore through them like paper. Vehicles were laughably flimsy (unless they were hero units) and because you were forced to play all three races, it barely felt like you had a chance to master any of them before being stormed by mobs of enemy troops. They even went and hired someone completely different to voice Gabriel Angelos, so it didn't sound right from the get go.
Would I give it another go? Not really. Now if they were to give the original DOW game some 4k UHD love, I'd practically throw my money at them.

Yeah, the original would be better (with a remake or reskin), just remake that. Doesn't look like they will be doing anything DOW related though, thanks to their own game flopping in this fashion...so I'm afraid for the foreseeable future, we are stuck with the games we already have.
FYI, I've just been playing a very good mod (albeit incomplete currently) that fixes the paper armour issue, makes you build all the elites from an actual structure (in unlimited quantities!) and you can build pretty much anything, anywhere. I'm so happy to get conscript swarm back!!! Currently I think they've only dealt with the Space marines though, not the eldar or orks.
I just love the newer games mechanics, but wish they had done the game properly, instead of as you say, making it something it definitely wasn't. It's an RTS, end of discussionx devs!
Also, just to let you know, I meant the multiplayer component, the campaign was always rubbish in this new one, and I suspect no mod will ever fix that, as campaigns tend to be a lot more difficult to create, due to the scripted nature of them. Balance will always be completely different in that campaign, and it will all be over in a few hours anyway, so not worth their time

Honestly, the original DoW and DoW2 are still extremely active now. DoW more with the UA mod. I still play DoW3 from time to time. Honestly, I dont think it is a completely horrible game, but if they would tweek a few things here and there and add some more factions, I truely think they could redeem themselves easily. However, I think it would take a miracle for either SEGA to commit something to redo the game or GW to step in and make SEGA do something.

It's aggravating when they "continue" a franchise but change the genre.
Regardless if it's successfully going from FO2 to FO3, or ME1 to ME2, or DAO to DA2, or DoW1 to DoW2, it's absolutely infuriating that we don't get more of what we enjoyed in the first place. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed FO3, ME2, DA2, and DoW2, but that wasn't what I signed up for.
Which is not to say I've always been fine with the genre or sub-genre change. Dungeon Siege 2 added to the mechanics of DS1, but DS3 effectively ruined the franchise. I played DoW1 and DoW2 extensively with friends, and we all gave a collective shrug to DoW3.
The Divinity series did it right - they didn't just increment the number and abruptly go from a Diablo-like ARPG to a turn-based RPG, the latter are under the Divinity Original Sin name.
