As some of you may have been following recently, there has been increased activity across the Star Trek Community with all the hype building on the upcoming browser based game, Star Trek: Infinite Space. Already we have been shown a trailer earlier this week that sent a message to gamers that they were clearly serious about building the next 'big' Star Trek game.
Their new website itself seems to be built reasonably well and is available for viewing here. The website displays some not before seen concept art that some have said is better than that shown for Star Trek: Online before it's release. This isn't necessarily surprising given that Mike and Denise Okuda are involved in the development phase to make sure the game maintains a Star Trek feel.
The game which is to be built with Unity3D technology in the flash engine being compatible with various platforms including the PlayStation3 is expected to be set in the Deep Space Nine era sporting a free to play without any payment environment.
The information distributed so far suggests the game will be entering alpha testing phase in late 2010, only time will tell whether this upcoming game will be successful at final release.

I can't say what it looks like as I would be in breach of forum rules.
I do like the claim that "they... [will] assure consistency with Star Trek timelines and canon." I'm sorry how? After the Dominion War the Federation and the Klingons go to war and magically the Cardassian military re-appears?
So sorry at a time when the Khitomer Accords are expanded and the remains of the Cardassian fleet gets disassembed the Khitomer Accords also go out the window and the Cardassians gain a fighting military?
Makes sense.
At least they seem to have us well covered on the bars, of all the concept art they could knock up to wow the fans they do two drawings of bars?

Isnt this going to be a free-to-play browers (!) game? Anyway, if its player-vs-player it makes sense that they'd want different empires to war on each other, rather than just "the alpha quadrant" against "dominion+" lol. '
I don't have any knowledge about browser-games in general, but I have a feeling it will be more like stratego in the trek universe; perhaps even an dumbed down version of BOTF.

lol.. just noticed at one of the pictures, the Picard and Riker silouettes in the bar on the stars in the back.
Also noticable... two of the three images contain a bar; one fed and one Klg.
I viewed the engine the're using. Its quite nice for a browser. The demo games/images looked relatively good for something to be played in a browser. Remarkable downside; its in java and during the demo's it had to buffer considerably, resulting in lag.

If you look closely at the concept art, a lot, and perhaps all of the faces, are screencaps taken from the series and then painted over. Picard, Riker, the Duras sisters, Kruge, O'Brien and Odo as Klingons etc...

Well it's quicker to develop I suppose, and since they own the rights to use it, why not...
I do actually quite like the style, although my opinions may be slightly coloured by the fact that the ceilings aren't 50 metres in the air, and the doors aren't built for a dinosaur to wander through... like another game I could mention.

I never heard of the developer before too, however Gameforce is is a well known german browser game specialist. They for sure know the drill of how to do it right.
