I have the feeling the phoenix box is going to get retired, and all the items dumped into this Mudds Market place.
The box was a great idea at the time to drag the dilithium exchange back under control but now it barely affects it and eventually they'll run out of items for it.

I reckon they are trying to bleed as much cash as possible from the players.

When you consider for the price of a single ship you can buy a brand new AAA game (or close to release at least), it is clearly a massive rip off.
The game publishers know that this is the only Trek game of worth with a sizable following and they know as a result hey can bleed the fans dry. The quality of this game is not so high as for it to have survived this long were it not for the Star Trek label attached; and those prices would never fly on a generic space combat game.

Sure there are whales who would buy any old shite from the game without question and pour thousands into the game, but most players are not like that. Most will balk at the idea of the prices in the game; i'm sure it drives newer players away.

Trouble is there are things that are even more expensive and they seem to get away with it...long time ago I was interested in MWO...I looked after they added my favorite Mech to the game...and saw it was nearly double the cost of a T6 ship to unlock...it was 55 dollars.

Oh absolutely. I played World of Warships casually for a bit but the price of some of the stuff there is ludicrously expensive, you're looking at £60+ for a single ship. And yet i knew people who'd happily pay that on a monthly basis whenever anything got released.

I think MMO gaming, and gaming in general tbh has a serious problem with these paid additions to games. The prices being charged for even minor items is utterly ridiculous when you consider the actual value of an item that same cost could get you in the real world. They rely on gamers being more easily parted from their cash I feel; be it because gamers tend to be younger, or because they are possible less likely to be blowing cash on going out drinking etc so are more at ease with pouring money into stuff like gaming, collecting items etc.

Those 3D printed STO ship models are a prime example. They are insanely expensive but they know people will pay that because Trekkies in particular and also gamers can easily be made to buy overpriced stuff that looks cool, or adds to their collection.

£100-ish for a C-Store ship is insane, especially since the original price was about £20-30. You're pushing yourself towards promo ship territory at those prices.

I think that the way they've dealt with this has eroded a lot of people's good will toward them as it doesn't matter what they do, they always seem to screw it up in some fashion and not learn from their previous errors.

They mess things up because they never listen to the feedback or learn from it.

They have made massive errors of judgement so many times in the last 5 years yet constantly keep doing the same thing.Staying silent on issues people are upset about, changing things without telling us why, seemingly making cash grab decisions, telling us they listened to us but then doing the opposite.

This could have easily been avoided if they just thought things through, it really does sometimes feel like they are run by a bunch of guys with no idea how reality works; like they are oblivious to how normal humans perceive things.

If lockboxes get stamped out of the industry then I'm fully expecting that this is the route most companies will go down - here's the item you want, you'll get it if you buy it, but it'll cost you.

There's a few that follow this approach already, but it does get very expensive very quickly.

If it's a regular, straight-up, T6, everybody can get one, C-Store ship, I don't think they could justify a massive price hike. The same goes for Lobi ships. Those are straight transactions. It's the gamblebox ships; the lockbox or R&D ships, the special offer ships that can be the $100 - $200 ships because that's what a person can expect to pay to get them. The thing is... If they're going to do that - go ahead and just have the gamblebox ships cost 5, 6, or 10 times more - they're going to have to add in all of the other stuff that comes with the gambleboxes. We get weapons, consoles, DOffs and BOffs, Lobi... You know, the other stuff. Do they take the ships out of the gambleboxes, prorate them, and then drop the price of keys and R&D packs and Phoenix Packs? Would anyone buy packs or keys if there weren't a chance to get ships?
