I heard a bogus rumor saying that Disco would be wrapping up the series at the end of season 3. Anyways, it got me thinking, how many seasons would you like to see Star Trek: Picard go? I would say three. Its not that I do not like the show, I love it. I just think that in this case you can finish a epic in three seasons. you know, Keep it rich.

Who's even spreading these rumors? Season 3 hasn't even aired yet, and actual reliable sources were talking about a 5th season being ordered. That sort of faith in the series by CBS would not indicate that nobody likes/watches Discovery, so this must be more of that clickbait crap from one of those people devoted to making sure new Trek dies, and that they profit from it.
I'm fairly lukewarm on Picard myself, but the progression of the arc, and the pacing so far combined with only having 10 episodes, I expect a lot of loose ends to be left hanging at the end of the first season that necessitates at least a second. Picard is very much in the modern drama genre, so it could go on as long as they can generate more cliffhangers, but 3 or 4 seasons sounds decent to avoid overstaying its welcome.

I'll be honest, I was surprised at how many loose ends got tied up. I agree there are many hanging out there to flesh out, but I was expecting that there would be some full blown plot cliffhangers that essentially got wrapped up by the last episode of season 1.

I pretty split of Picard serie myself, I enjoy it has its star trek but not quite all in on Picard and the serie myself.
On how many series there will be I think is on how season 2 is recived if so and so a season 3 just will wrap it up and thats the end of it, so my best guess is three seasons. If Patrick Stewart has 5 season then that's the predicted length (just my guess of course)

I see three seasons. With the CBS Viacom merger recently happening and not having to rely on the different contracts produced for each new show anymore, I can see CBS-Viacom wanting to quietly sweep Kurtzman-Trek under the rug, while maintaining it was a success (it wasn't) and produce more shows that connect closer to the older shows.
Or just do what they did in the past and close the whole thing down because they can't be bothered anymore.

This is most likely because noone (especially the writers) can say for sure how much life Steward has left in him, as cruel as it may sound. Which is also why we got so much background on the other characters.
I like to compare season 1 to the TNG pilot "Encounter at Farpoint"... Imagine the 92 minutes of that story would be streched to 10 episodes, 40 minutes each...
Also, in my opinion at least, Picard is like many many other reboots (no matter STD, the "new" Star Wars movies ect.) plagued by very poor writing.

Totally respect you, and your opinion on this, but I couldn't disagree more. Picard had 10 episodes worth of characters, plot, locations, sub plots, and call backs. Farpoint was a decent episode, but not one of the best, and stretched to fill it's runtime.
Some of the new work is seen as jaded, or too centered on action and effects. While it might be fair to say Picard suffered from this as well, at it's heart it had the Captain literally and metaphorically fighting for the tonal soul of the show. You can drop an F Bomb or two, focus on aerial dogfights and a gruesome death here and there, but in the end it was Picard telling anyone who would listen that compassion, tolerance and understanding would save them all.
And it did.
With Riker riding in like the bad**s he is and saving the day.

Look... I don't dislike Picard and I like it way more than I do STD, but I think you let yourself blind a little by nostalgia.
I might have been okay with the F-Bombs in Picard, seeing as it is more "civilian" than the "military" Staarfleet POV we're used to. But because they (the writers) were already very liberal with that in STD, it just feels like that they just did it because they want to be as "grim dark" as BSG or The Expanse or (what would be even worse) maybe just to be edgy. Same goes for the gore.
Another point is that characters started to "tell" their feelings they had towards other other characters than "act them". This is either because the actors can't act, the writers think their own audience is stupid or that they can't write - there's a rule after all, which goes for both writing a book aswell as writing a screenplay: Show, don't tell.
And given these options, I tend to the later one.

Even from a production stand point, for such an expensive budget - to utilize shutterstock videos in production and just blatantly copy and paste ship models... oh my.
Yea it was great giving closure to the whole data thing, but for all the budget they had, this was the cheapest production - and most people I speak to are also ok with it. In this scenario I admire Discovery more - while writing still may not be the best, their production was top-notch and each asset made. None of that shutter stock stuff either.

True. With 8-9 million $ per episode I too wonder where all that money went... Well, the lion share probably went to the "high class actors", such as Steward, Frakes ect. but that still would leave around half of the money left, right?
[Edit]: According to the Internet, Steward alone got 750.000 $ per episode.

I recon three seasons would be a good number for Picard. It gives room for a start-middle-end type of longer story without getting excessive. Picard is after all just one person in a galaxy full of fun characters.
Similarly if we get a Pike series (quite likely) i hope it only goes for a similar limited run. Nothing ruins a show or characters more than overly long runs and getting bloated stories over time (see Supernatural as a terrible example!) Short, concise trips into the story of these characters.
Discovery is a bit different and it already confirmed for 5 seasons at least that we know of. It's possible the future aspect might spin off further side projects too.
