    A 5/1/x pilot raider?

    I do like the idea of slapping that console into a Vengeance or a Universe (Valkis). It seems to me that the Space Barbie is the only reason to have it.

    Even if I had the cash, I think I would have to pass on this, and I'm a die-hard Pilot jock.

    If you decide the grind the DIL to trade for Zen to then buy keys to sell, the time investment required makes it not worth it. I already have a full time job, I don't need a second one just to buy digital ships.

    If you decide to buy the keys outright, the monetary investment is the same, if not more due to luck being a factor, as buying the R&D packs in the first place.

    This is outright Gambling, pure and simple. Some people are ok with it, I am not, and I made my opinion clear on the matter here, here, here and here.

    Perfect World Entertainment's greed is absolutely ♥♥♥♥ing disgusting. To quote the great Jim Sterling of the Jimquisition: "Companies don't want to make money. They want to make ALL of the money."

    They purposefully put the most sought after ships and items behind a gigantic paywall (Legendary Bundles) or Gambling mechanics to either take advantage of people who have money to waste (which is ok in my books, if they can afford it, all the power to them), or people with gambling addiction, like myself.

    It's one of the reasons why I haven't logged into STO to actually play the game since... god... I think December? Charging so much for the Legendary Bundle pretty much killed any interest I have in Star Trek Online.

    I won't blame the ship design too much. It's not exactly Trekkie but it would be something I'd fly in say, Elite Dangerous or EVE or star Citizen. It's not ugly.

    But, on same token, why would anyone pick this from choice of other amazing ships on the promotion box anyway? lol. I don't quite think Cryptic thought this through and have a gut this ship might end up becoming a lobi crystal ship eventually.

    That's the big question isn't it? There's likely only going to be die hard collectors or a very specific type of player that will pick this over the likes of the Donnie, Connie, D7 or the Vaadwaur MW choices.

    Like the Franklin, this one is a weird, poor choice for the promo pack. I've already stopped doing my endeavours as I was getting annoyed at the game and this is annoying me even further.

    I actually like this ship. And I would get it in a heartbeat if it was more easily obtainable.

    I will most likely get it eventually, though, just because I want a complete collection of all experimental weapons. Yes, I'm weird. XD

    I just don’t understand Cryptic‘s thinking of getting the designers to put effort into making amazing looking models of ships and then 99% of the players never even see one flying about, much less get a chance to experience it fully.

    Such wasted energy and effort which bites even harder when you see their usual excuses for not doing stuff it’s that they are so stretched for time and resources!
    Maybe stop wasting your team’s efforts on content most people never bloody get to experience and use that effort for making stuff the players actually want for once.

    Im sure you know it too, but it makes sense when you look at it from a 'what makes them money' point of view. If it was a subscription based game, pumping out content makes sense - have to keep the player base from wandering off. But the way the business model is set up, the only way they can earn income, is by regularly bringing out stuff like this that some players will buy, apparently at any price point. I'd love to pay for actual content, but sadly that is not an option. All those games going free to play, all those years ago, made sense in the short term - vastly increase player base, sell a bunch of 'premium' items... but in the long term, it is terrible because now your only option is to keep releasing more premium/loot box type stuff and live off the small percentage of (for lack of a better term) whales. Typical thinking of management at corporations these days... anything longer than one quarter away doesn't affect their immediate bonus so its not important. </end lament>

    I get they're a business and have to make money, but they've made some very questionable moves over the last year or so.     Correction, it's not what makes them money. It's what makes them the damn big load.

    C-store, legendary boxes, aesthetics, event insta completions, etc make them money already. They can keep making money by simpling listing things on there.

    But lockbox and Promobox are ultimate casinos, and you know how people go wild in casinos. BTW, f2p aren't the only games doing gamble boxes, it's subscription games too. Anyone and everyone is dabbling into gamble boxes regardless of what their model is. It's insta-burst money.

    True - and at least subscription based games give players like me the option to continue to support the game (I'm perfectly happy to pay for my entertainment), without supporting either gambling or ludicrously overpriced cosmetic items... Sto doesn't seem to have this option (yes, I've lumped c-store and so on in with loot boxes, which have that extra insidious gambling side to them and should be outlawed entirely - but that aside, I felt the same about the legendary ship box... let me pay for content, missions, planets anything, please... not for more reskinned ships). I know some people are happy paying for that stuff, and good for them. I was just responding to Sul's lament that most of the new development/releases seems to cater to only a small percentage of the player base rather than the masses.

    My issue is not so much with the gambling side ( though that is a pestilence upon gaming these days); my issue is that we are constantly told by the devs that there’s not the time or resources to do x, y, z etc for the game because they are short and yet they waste so much effort on ships like these that barely anyone remembers.
    I mean how many Freedom class ships have people seen flying around? Or how many Jellyfish science ships?
    And how much use is there for the wonderful Bozeman ground map outside of usually a few days annually?
    Just so much wasted effort going onto “content” that hardly anyone sees or gets to enjoy and endless piles of gambling crap with rubbish, uninteresting stats or near impossible to win mechanics.

    Hey, they are fixing stuff too. They are finally getting around to patching the ISS Enterprise bug in Temporal Reckoning...that was broken for at least a year...and probably still will be broken after the patch...and break 6 other things in the process. But hey, why worry about that other stuff when you can make the 576th version of a Federation T6 ship?
