Greetings Everyone,

I just wanted to talk and introduce myself as a new member. My name is Brahmsul, long time Star Trek fan, however brand new to STO. I am from the US.

There really isn't much to say about myself, I'll be joining on Teamspeak here soon, just need to download the client and get it setup. I look forward to working with each of you and in my own part contributing to a mutually enjoyable gaming and social experience.

Thanks to everyone who replied and to those of you who've taken the time on the game and on TS to say hi to the new guy. I just wanted to drop a line and give my observations over the last week or so since I've been around.

First.

- I have been watching and paying very close attention to what's been going on around here. I do that when I'm in a new situation, I don't keep quiet, well not completely quiet anyway, but I do keep my eyes and/or ears open to see what way the wind blows and the overall attitude and culture and how everyone interacts with each other.

One thing I was very curious to see, with this group in particular was how each of the divisions interacted with the others and I really wanted to make sure, from a new members perspective that there wasn't an US vs Them mentality between the divisions. Through what I've read on the boards, heard from the chatter on Teamspeak and seen in, in-game chats there is no US VS. Them mentality. That makes me a very happy new guy.

Along with this part comes how the Fleet functions as a whole, the organization, the teamwork and the overall communications and command structure as a whole are also, to be honest, quite an intimidating if not daunting, aspect for potential new members. Not that there is anything wrong with it, or anything bad about it. But its so well organized and so well oiled that new members, such as myself, almost feel as if they're joining an actual accredited non-profit organization or the official Star Trek fan club itself. ( I actually was a meeting attending member years ago. Uniforms and the whole bit.) However as daunting as it is, it is a very good thing. It lets prospective members know that even though this is a gaming organization you take the organization itself and your individual responsibilities to the organization very seriously. And that's a Key ingredient to stability and longevity of any such organization as this organization is living proof of. Not many gaming guilds/clans/fleets/whatever live and prosper after 8 years. It simply doesn't happen very often. So again very impressed there.

Second

- Communications, be they peer to peer, officer to member or friendly banter back and forth. Each person is given their due, not only in respect but in simple common decency. Even though the banter can get kinda thick and the back and forth just down right funny everyone had time to answer a question or two from the new guy here and in a way that wasn't condescending but actually from a point that is understanding and guiding. That is an extremely important thing as well, as we all know new members don't want to feel like their mentally damaged just because they asked a question. I''ve seen "Give Respect, Get Respect' demonstrated in communications with each other and myself time and time again, very well done there.

Thank you for having the patience to read through my ramble here, I suppose I could've posted this to some official thread specifically designed for feedback and suggestions but I really wanted every member, high and low to see exactly what it is I see and to know my observations.

However the only suggestion I have at this point in time is to keep up the good work and to give each of you the knowledge that even though I'm new. From what I've seen and heard over this last week or so I am quite happy and proud to be a member here and want to do anything I can to help the organization last and continue to grow another 8 years and beyond. Games come and go, some more so than others but this place isn't about just a game. Its about the people that make it up as a whole sharing a topic they all enjoy together.

So with that, I'm here, not going anywhere. If you need me for anything just tell me. I'll do whatever I can to help.

It's very gratifying to see that our goals and overall ethos can be quite well perceived by new members such as yourself.
I'm very proud of what we've all achieved here together, and its knowing that there is a great camaraderie and spirit of improving things that keeps me personally going, pushing myself, and I imagine the same can be said by many others.

As you can see the seal takes joy from performing his role, for the seal it is not about money it is about what it can do for others to enhance their experience and make their day that little bit better.

Great post here, Brahmsul. It's always interesting to see how things are, through a newer member's point of view. I appreciate you taking the time to compile this! In terms of your point on Conflict Resolution, all of our issues are dealt with quite promptly by the appropriate people. I can't emphasize how much it upsets me when people let major conflicts go unreported, we have a great structure for dealing with situations of that nature, and it should be utilized.
