The whole premise of upgrading Discovery to 32nd Century tech really smacks of TNG's attempts at portraying the future during All Good Things.... Its still the Enty-D just with a third nacelle stuck on the back and a big ass phaser gun... So now we have a 23rd Century Crossfield class, which is more obsolete than Burnham's hairdresser, being overhauled with mega tech... if that could be done, why isn't Enty-A still flying around? #nitpicking
What I want to know is why is it that in every Star Trek series they do, they always portray Admirals as massive ass-hats who must be defied at all costs? I mean, seriously, it's getting a bit old.
We're going to find that Discovery has holographic shuttles at some point to save on space on the shuttle-deck...
I'd be delighted to offer any advice I have on understanding women. When I have some, I'll let you know.

Because the Enterprise-A didn't fly through a time portal in near-mint condition with a spore drive that puts conventional propulsion to shame? If we're going to be #nitpicking...
I fully agree with the tired-and-retreaded Evil Admiral trope within Star Trek (it's so effing old and overused), but I feel like this fleet admiral might not fit into the Evil column just yet. I get the sense he's got the weight of the universe on his shoulders and now he's got a Temporal Accord-shattering ship and crew on his hands, with a drive that essentially will save a lot of lives. I'm honestly surprised he hasn't ordered the ship dismantled and Stamets placed under long-term medical study, so they can replicate the technology for general use. Seems like an awful risk to send Discovery out as a troubleshooter as unique as she is. Then again, we'd have to call the series something else other than Discovery, if that happened.

I have to say I really liked this episode, it struck a nice balance between something new but reaching back to relate.
I had the same face as Stamets when Saru asked Tilly to be Acting XO. But I think she's the right choice for sure.

Tilly is mostly the right choice because we have a bunch of lieutenants that haven't been developed very well as characters yet, Stamets is an engine component so he can't be on the bridge without giving up Disco's most valuable asset, and it feels like Reno and Culber are guest stars more than regular cast members. Nothing against Tilly, but hopefully if the XO gig lasts, she gets fast tracked to an appropriate rank. No repeats of Harry Kim, Eternal Ensign.
