How is it that stuff like this happens but yet you have regular offenders spouting off racist, homophobic, and vulgar messages in places like ESD and First City zone chats that never get dealt with?

As for AFK’ing; I hate that it is a thing people do in public missions as it really does feel like they are taking the proverbial and leaving of everyone else making the effort to earn the rewards.
But if you’re going to arrange a private run where everyone is badly to do it then I say have at it! It harms nobody and if the devs and GM’s are so bothered by people afk’ing then design your game so it cannot be done or isn’t needed.
Several missions, especially for events, are seriously dull and time intensive so it’s no wonder people arrange these sorts of runs.

All they have to do to kill the propensity for people to team up to AFK SB1 is set a failure method for advanced or epic levels. If one of the escaping ships is destroyed, the mission fails. Done. But they haven't done it.

I plan to AFK SB1 again today. We'll see what happens.

It's lazy game design though and blind or wilful ignorance of the player's feelings that creates this content though.

Look at the Mirror Invasion event queue. Unless you actually enjoyed flying round shooting endless ship (which was ok for some of it tbh and good to test a build) it was a ridiculously long mission with timers put in to extend it and make players play the game longer. Plus there was the fact that you could literally get higher rewards sitting afk on the advanced version than actually trying your hardest on the normal version. You've literally created the perfect environment for players to seek out the easy way out; go afk and sit to do some doffing, get a bite to eat, or watch Netflix.

If game's developers want to stop players doing stuff like leeching off others or using afk to get "free" low-effort rewards then the ball is in their court; they need to make content the encourages active participation.

People and Dev's should understand the difference between AFKing in PUG and private AFKing.
One should be bannable and the other not.
It is part of the system, same as you can use admiralty for leveling for example.
They should either fix the system that let this kind of thing or levels us alone.
Its just natural for a human if possible to take shortcuts, I'm sure everyone in life is using these " gray " areas not only in game.

If I were doing it in Random TFOs or in pick-up TFOs or even in private TFOs without everyone involved knowing and understanding that the sole purpose of running the TFO was to not participate in the TFO, I would agree with you. Intentionally sandbagging in that way is unacceptable. You will get zero argument from me.

However, in this case, I can't support an absolute hardline against the practice. What I do -- while playing by myself, and not interacting with any other players -- should be my business as long as I am not cheating. I think that even in the case of teaming up with the sole purpose of optional participation is not immoral or unethical, again as long as we are not cheating.

Informed consent is the line of demarcation.

Our Special Force Commanders put their real life time aside to host these events as well as after hour runs. There's really no need to try to make me understand how justifiable this is, and I won't be allowing this kind of behavior here. Let alone attempt to advertise it and say "it's okay".

This is really close to the borderline, and everyone part of the channel knows this. At the end, you are AFKing. Just because its a loop hole and bunch of people are doing it, doesn't make it okay.
