Has anyone else tried the new Cryptic game now that it's in open beta?

It's interesting, I played it a bit last night. In many ways it reminds me of a MOBA or Diablo. I can see the potential for loadout customization though the character customization seemed lacking especially for a Cryptic game. It's also blatantly obvious how it's going to be monetized...

Yeah i had a go also, it has a battle pass that i wont be purchasing that's about 2500 zen, character creation was lacking imo and game play is a little clunky with KB and Mouse seems its aimed at a controller more so

This game is going to be monetized up the wazoo.....Magic fans already blow absolutely insane amounts of real cash on the cards themselves so I have no doubt they will potentially fall easy prey to microtransactions in this game. It will be like lambs to the slaughter....

As to the game itself it just looks like every other isometric/3rd person fantasy RPG out there. TBH I struggle to see it as any different to a hundred other (and much older) RPG's that have come before it.
The only difference is the lore around the game but honestly nothing stood out for me visually or gameplay-wise.

Indeed it will be. However comes with this franchise. Card packs into whatever this will be. Already class in something form of a lootbox in the store. I dont remember if they list % chance in getting it.

I've just downloaded it and will give a go this week as it looks like my sort of gameplay. Whether it turns out that way when I actually play it I guess I'll see!

I downloaded it but didn't go past the terrible character creator. Might try to play it a bit once I have more free time, but of all things I would think they would have wanted more polish on the first activity every player has to do. Hard to immerse yourself into a game when your character comes out feeling like a clone template for your class. Hopefully they rework it before the real go-live.

Found some time tonight to play a bit more. Gameplay is definitely reminiscent of a Diablo game, but it already has a zen store set up with a number of microtransaction choices even though the game is still in Beta. They are definitely looking to hook those Magic fans that sink so much money into the rest of this IP. Not sure I'll keep playing, but at least the game didn't have any crashes or obvious bugs for the first quest that I played through. I never got hooked on the card game, and I don't see this being any more successful at sucking me in.

It seems to be getting a bit of a kicking so far. A guy called Sean Plott, known as Day[9] in the Magic: The Gathering: Arena scene (he's one of the big names from what I can gather) and he's described the game as awful, so if the hardened Magic fans are getting turned off, imagine how the more causal players will fare long term.

Also having the game shop up and running in beta is just plain stupid. If you're going to have something like this, at least make it free (if you're wanting to test the front end) or keep it switched off during the beta.

I had looked into this. I'm not interested in personally investing into a cashcow game model, I've already invested in one already - so I'll not be playing this at all!

Though if they do keep bringing content regularly I will change my opinion. But it's a content first policy for me personally.
