Looks like everyone can participate in the Open Beta for Diablo 2 Resurrected starting in a few hours! Is anyone else going to be up for trying this over the weekend, as multiplayer is implemented?
From the Blizzard news article:
The war against the Burning Hells is about to enter a new chapter on Windows® PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, and PlayStation®4. Starting August 13 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, long-time fans and new players alike will have a chance to participate in the upcoming Early Access test. Players can take part by pre-purchasing Diablo® II: Resurrected™ or the Diablo® Prime Evil Collection on Windows® PC or eligible consoles or acquire access by watching their favourite streamers on Twitch (more details below). Following the Early Access weekend, on August 20 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, the Open Beta weekend will be open to everyone on a supported platform. See FAQ for details on how to gain access by platform.

D2R has been in the works long before these issues became public knowledge, its being released next month. Its most definitely not a case of "quick announce something to distract people!!!" sort of situation.
But I suspect they are hoping that the fanfare around the open beta will detract form the negativity surrounding Blizzard at the moment.

BETA just ended mid battle, I was most enjoying testing out a runeword at the time. Oh well, the BETA was fun anyway.

I must admit, the mechanics of the game feel very dated now.
As much as I want to complete it for the story I don't get on with the stamina bar, and the accuracy of clicking doesn't feel 'right' to me. But I've not played more than 10 minutes of the original, so there's no nostalgia for me.

I spent many a late night running around Diablo 2 and those were good times with fun memories... but despite the nostalgia appeal, it's not somewhere I have any desire or intention of returning to. Nothing to do with the scandals going on at the moment, but there's a D3 and a D4 is in the works so I just don't see the need to devote time to the older title these days.
