That said, THANK YOU CRYPTIC for not revamping the Romulan storyline. The whole New Romulus shtick has been such a part of STO for so long, getting rid of it now just for Picard would be.. let's say my motivation to play would not be enhanced by it.

As for ships, a non-useless T-6 Excelsior and T-6 Connie that I can get without forking out a three figure sum would be nice.

Maybe instead of known voice talent, they could get someone to -- oh, I don't know -- figure out how to bring The Forge back? Possibly fix the day/night cycle on Risa? Re-animate the engine cowlings on FED Pilot Escorts? Fix the crafting booth on Defera? You know, little things like that. I'm sure that between us, Discord, and /r/ we can come up with a fairly decent list of "Things That Should Be Fixed".

What I meant to add first was that yeah, I mean I get that not everyone likes the Mirror universe, but I think MirrorTrek was at it's best during TOS and the TNG mirror novels/comics. As much as the DS9 stuff was fun. And I want more of that.

I think I recall them saying a Mirror character/recruit event would never happen because those guys really are the bad guys.
Basically although it might be fun for a single mission they don’t want everyone playing the evil space-fascists because it kinda goes against the ideals of Star Trek.

And I know you’ll just say that “but we murder thousands in constant combat”; well yeah, but that’s really a limitation of the game design I feel. Combat makes the game interesting and as much as solving everything with Picard-style diplomacy would match the shows; it would make a very dull game I think. People (well the majority I’d imagine) don’t want to play games at being a diplomat when they could be flying their ship in a space battle. So the game is combat focused because it sells things to make them money.

I actually fully agree with you. Doesn't make me want a mirror character who changes sides and runs up against the differences between the TE and the UFP any less though. Oh well, back to the fanfiction salt mines.


Having said that, hopefully their Dili rebalance doesn't break the economy the other way. Again.

Ten Forward Weekly 9/22/21:

• Will ask about more endeavor perk points
• Kael doesn't know if there will be unique dialog for DSC characters for the Terran arc(given what Killy supposedly did to the Mirror DSC characters) Its up to the writer Paul who usually thinks about that stuff
• Will check on Terran weapons in the mirror pack being unable to be upgraded
• New ship: T6 Steamrunner
• Designed by EC Henry
• Called the Appalachia class
• Trait: When activating a torpedo or mine BOFF ability gain large shield/hull penetration bonus
• Kael Doesn't think the Tholians will make an appearance this arc
• No new Federation ship interior for the ship
• Steamrunner comes out October 1st
• Captain upgrade token, and other new things, weren't for dil because making money to keep making the game is a higher priority then the dil market
• Need to get more time on Jeremy's schedule to put more things into the Phoenix Box to help the dil economy
• Something like a dil based ship rental system is a good idea, but may cost too much programmer time to implement for it to be worth it. Possibly wouldn't be on the table until 2022 or 2023
• Canon model of the Steamrunner has been revamped also
• Ship can be bought by itself, or part of a Steamrunner ship-of-the-line pack
• Pack includes: T1, T5, and T6, Steamrunner ships, 2 experimental ship upgrade tokens, 1 T5-U ship upgrade token

• Updating the Mirror ships was something Thomas decided to do. Got to use some of the UV tech developed for the D'deridex on the new ships to add more customization to the ships
• Steamrunner shuttlebay has lights on it modeled after aircraft carrier lights signaling if its ok to land or not
• EC Henry is working on another ship that will be out in not too long
• Ship console: tricobolt tear launcher
• Ship console an homage to Star Trek Armada. In that game the Steamrunner was an artillery ship with a big AOE tricobolt device
• Mirror Gagarin console based off of an old DC comic Federation weapon that shot big protomatter crescent waves
• Kael and Thomas joke about all the war crime weapons the players use. Its more of a gameplay thing then a canon thing

• When used you can see a drill flare/sparks on the hull of enemy ships

• Normal ship price is 3,000 zen, ship of the line bundle is 5,000 zen

• Kael teased something might be coming back around the time the ship comes out(possibly the vanity shield dil event)
• Vesta is more difficult to do overhauls for because they dont own the rights, they rent them. Though Cryptic paid for the rights, and it may be coming up
• Playable Terrans unlikely due to work needed for a new faction, and most people don't actually want to play the badguys
• Don't know if they will get O'brien in STO. Kael jokes about the writers not being sadistic enough for an O'brien mission
• If they made a new Breen vanity shield(the Dielectric Oscillation shield) they just just make a new item rather then simply changing the current one for those who like the way it looks
• Kael wishes there were Kelpians in the game. They weren't done before because CBS shared with Cryptic a plot point that would make it impossible, but then later didn't do it, so while Kelpians are possible its not something really on the schedule since the content have moved past it

• At the time Romulans were made CBS didn't want Romulans to wear Starfleet uniforms, and Cryptic hasn't gotten any word that has changed.
• Holographic officers like the Doctor and Geordi being editable was a mistake, but they don't want to take that away. No plans to make other holographic officers editable
• We will see the Emperor by the end of the arc
• The Emperor is not 100% decided yet. They know who they want the Emperor to be, and have reached out to them, but they haven't come back saying yes yet.
• Eisenberg class is being made, but no news besides that
• As far as Kael is aware, the Eisenberg isn't a lockbox ship. But it could change
• More stuff coming to Mudd's store next week
• Kael has repeatedly suggested the Picard flashback uniforms to the staff as things people want
• The Mirror Universe weapons that were given away not being upgradeable might be on purpose, but Kael will ask
• Cryptic has had joking conversations about making a Sub Rosa joke if they ever got Gates Mcfadden into STO. Like her finding the candle and throwing it away
• The ship is coming out Friday so it counts as having come out in October for financials
• CBS/Paramount merger really hasn't changed much for Cryptic besides the people they talk too over there
• Kael will bring up making more reputations, and likes the idea of a Khitomer Alliance rep
• The idea behind adding T6 to existing reps was to cut down how much time/cost it took to make them. It actually took longer/cost more
• Borticus says a hypothetical T7 rep update would probably take as much time as making a new rep. Tier updates get harder the more reps they have
• Kael will follow up on the volcano suit. EV suit slot is promising with data thats come in. Can't promise anything, but it may be closer then its ever been
• Non humanoid BOFFs is something Cryptic is interested in. Lots of technical challenges involving animations. Would probably have limited skill set
• As an example of how seemingly easy things aren't actually easy. In a recent attempt to add a new hat into the game one of the Cryptic devs had to hand edit 2,000 files, but the final edited file count is higher
• Kael's least favorite TFO in STO. All the old Borg TFOs
• Kael wont know what we are talking about regarding a Halloween event until next Tuesday(sarcasm on his part about not knowing)
• PVP unlikely to get a revamp. Its a subject that gets brought up occasionally in the office, but there isn't a big enough community for it to be a focus
• Kael's favorite arc is the original Grethor arc, even before they revamped it
• Cryptic can't accept full story/idea pitches due to copyright reasons
• No immediate plans for more Kelvin stuff
• Next on Cryptic's list to update is likely the removed Federation Klingon war missions. Though Kael agrees the Breen arc needs a revamp
• Cryptic has an agreement with the person who made the Vesta for it to appear in STO. Part of this agreement is no 3D printing of the ship.
• Might add more lifetime sub benefits. Its something that comes up every few months, but other things get in the way
• Lifetime subs keep selling, even at this point in the game's life

• Kael has asked about mission dialog not dropping people out of cloak. Its something thats harder then it looks
• Borticus says in the chat: It also allowed for a lot of mission logic to break in unexpected ways. Allowing cloak to persist thru contacts must be done on a per-contact basis, to ensure the mission logic does not break.
• Cryptic has talked about integrating ship videos they use to announce ships into the game more. So that you could look at a ship you own/want to buy in a cutscene like that. Cryptic is not far on the idea
• Roadmaps are hard due to how often things change
• Things like Legendary Constellation are unlikely to happen due to not having a lot of variant to bundle
• Cryptic talks about adding things to the GPL store often, but it gets pushed aside by other things
• Borticus on EV suit slot: I will comment on EV Suit Slot: Work has progressed, and more challenges need to be solved. It's not very high priority, but work is continuing when possible.
• Ground vehicles are unlikely due to maps not being designed for them
• Cryptic thinks the Klingon Civil War content was well received, but could tell people were getting tired of every seasonal release for a long time being about it. They are considering having one or two seasonal updates of this current Terran arc be a separate side mission. Akin to Brushfire or Beyond the Nexus in the Tzenkethi arc
• No one at Cryptic or Perfect World likes that they had to get rid of the Foundry. They talked about having a foundry only server, but that would still require work to maintain, and would be something only a small group of people went to

They desperately need to fix uniform unlocks. I mean if I spend premium currency or enough energy credits to unlock a uniform or a badge or whatever, I expect to be able to use it with everything else. not have the system decide I can't use it on this or that but this other thing, that's ok =P

It's possible that there's legal/copyright differences between the artist letting a single person print one copy, and them letting a company open up printing to thousands of people each with custom paint jobs, names etc.

Eaglemoss have a Vesta model but it's the original version and not customised etc. What STO would allow would be quite different to that I feel.
