As the title suggests; I'm not really a fan when companies or unofficial subs pull this sort of thing when gaming is all *I* care about in a gaming community. To be frank; politics or real world issues should really be separated from gaming. I'd say many of us, ideally probably play video games to escape from the real world, aside from the entertainment value, but that now seems to bleed into the gaming world.
I maybe wrong; but this stuff just kinda irks me a bit.
But in case anyone else uses STO reddit for info and updates; at least you know what's going on over there if you use it.

Put this in the UFP Discord earlier today after finding it also when i went to go see if anyone else was having issues with hair and ears in game given that Rodek was missing hair and Ferra was missing ears upon inspection i found its also causing the same issue on playable toons.
In the grand scheme of things something like this does not actually bother me though R/STO has become so toxic of late i do not venture on much unless its to see if any issues are on it so haven't really missed it that much and if it makes someone feel like they doing something then its something that also doesn't bother me.

Meh, I don't mind these kinds of protests, if Reddit is allowing misinformation to be posted, then people should take a stand, especially when said misinformation is harmful. Antivax isn't like flat Earthers, there are real consequences to being antivax.

Yes, I agree. It's a new low for Reddit, shutting down to protest there's not more censorship of opinions (or in some cases facts) that run counter to Government and Corporate narrative and propaganda. Although sadly just commenting on this is dragging politics into STO and this Fleet. Just about everything is political these days.

I guess I really just focus more solely on the gaming part and use R/STO as a resource when people post things about STO freebies or something. But then the "resource" has gone blackout. Just like to me, "what the hell" ? I can ignore and not let it bother me as you mentioned; but what about the folks who maybe just use it strictly as a gaming resource? Could be STO could be any other subreddit.

The only issue I really have with this is that it only impacts the wider majority of users of these subs, when they know nothing about what is going on on the grand scheme of things. It's like the kid who took all the toys home with them when they didn't get their way during a game.
If you're on mobile you can't even see the message posted by the mods so it leaves a lot of people in the dark.
I'm all for taking a stand against misinformation but I feel gaming sites like r/STO should really be avoiding getting involved; or at the very least have involved the very community they host by advising prior to taking action. At the end of the day said subs only exist because players use them; making decisions like this without warning just annoys people and results in the actual cause being forgotten.
What's I'm really saying is; transparency of decisions is key to a good community. THIS community excels in this regards which is why I'm so grateful to be a part of UFP.

It's probably the stress of seeing all us noobs die in Arena of Sompek so much. He probably cries into his bloodwine at the end of the day for some decent combatants.

Well, censoring antivax isn't censoring facts, and misinformation about vaccinations should be removed, all it does is spread fear, and cause chaos. Also, Star Trek has been political since its inception, as have most things, it's not a modern phenomena.
Politics in gaming goes back quite a way as well, look at the Tropico series, a satirical political game, been running since 2001. The Call of Duty series, very political, always has been. There are so many examples of political games from the past, to the present day.

Honestly, I find some of the Discord channels to be much better sources of STO information than Reddit, basically those channels occupied by DPS league types and PvPers who know way more about this game than the average Reddit poster. Although, there is good information on Reddit too, just have to filter out all the STO misinformation. :p
Next part isn't to you Stryker, but in the spirit of your first post. People of all sorts of different views, ideologies and cultures, can in most cases come together around playing a game together like STO. Insert real World politics into it, especially in these very polarized times that's not possible. Players would have to split into their own politicized ghettos because of the intense hostility generated between different political viewpoints. So for that reason and because I'm new to this fleet and don't want instigate a big forum stink in my first few posts, I'm going to refrain from responding to some other posts here on exactly who is putting out misinformation, and who's a danger to who, as well as the whole censorship issue. Live Long and Prosper!

My personal feeling is that a better course of action would be a concerted effort from subs to sticky a thread filled with actual correct info and encouraging people to get vaccines, presenting the correct info on the virus etc. Fight the idiots with real, valued information from reputable sources. Use your platform within your "fandom" or group or whatever to get the right info to your members.
Drown out the bad info with the correct stuff.
Often trying to remove and ban these crazies alone you just push it underground and into fringe areas, and quite often just drive the whole "the world/media/Reddit is in a conspiracy against us so we must be right" attitude deeper into the heads of believers. These people will fight tooth and nail to believe their crazy misinformation, but by presenting the correct info across all spectrums you might just sway some people towards the light side.
