Old diseases never die, Nimbus III



Captain Broughm was just waking up from a very terrible sleep. He was in his late 50s and very sore. He got up, chugged back a cup of black coffee, then decided to trim down the very grey beard that had donned his well-aged face for most of the last decade. It took about fifteen minutes to shorten it to a very even, very close beard. Heavier than a five-o'clock shadow. Satisfied with this, he threw his uniform on and headed to the bridge.

Two minutes later, he stepped on the bridge and saw Katie, his much younger XO, talking to one of the other officers. "Morning Kate," Josh said grumpily, "Report status?"

Kate heard him and looked at the grizzled captain. "Bad night?" she asked. Josh just nodded and rubbed his face. Kate simply sighed and said morosely, "One-hundred-forty-three new cases and sixteen new deaths, mostly among the Romulan populous. The virus is slowing up, but our team says it could flair back at any moment."

Broughm cursed, then looked at the viewscreen. "Someone remind me why we are here at this god forsaken hellhole?" He asked to no one.

Silky piped up, saying, "When in doubt, blame the Rommies."

Josh looked at his helm officer, and said, "Everybody pitches in on this planet, so we're all to blame." He sighed, then went to the center chair. Sitting down, Josh pressed a button to open comms. =^= Ariam, how are you guys making out down there?=^=

=^= We might have found way to stop this virus! Thing is-=^=

The comms went to static. "REGGIE!" Josh yelled. Reg spun around from the engineering console, saying, "I know, cap. Attempting to re-establish." The engineer played with the console for a bit. "I've run short range reception through the deflector. Signal shouldn't drop out....in theory."

Josh rolled his eyes, then reopened the comms. =^= Ariam, repeat last message.=^=

=^= We'll have to send it to Starfleet Medical to do it. =^=

Josh sighed, saying, =^= It'll have to do. Alright, prep for a shift change. Cheticamp out. =^=

Just then, a beep came over the speakers. Reg had a look at the comms console, saying, "Cap, unless the subspace antenna is glitching, I think we're getting a Priority One message."

Kate said, curiously, "Must be important." Josh got up, walked to the console and read the message. He huffed and said, "Where's the Bedford?"

the XO looked at a screen and said, "Just leaving Starbase 218." Josh nodded and said, "Have them divert to our location to relieve us. They're about two hours from us. Reg, go down and wake the babe up from her slumber."

Reg got up and headed to the lift, saying, "You got it, cap." Broughm then opened up comms. =^= Ariam, change of plans. Have all your people ready to beam up in am hour-forty-five.=^=

A sound of adknowdegment came from the comms. Josh turned to the lift and said, "I'm going to grab breakfast. Let me know if anything happens Kate." She nodded as Josh disappeared into the lift.
