They've said nothing about the 12th anniversary bundle having Legendary ships, just mirror ones, so why not milk the whales twice?

I am curious - do you all spend any money on the game? I am always confused when i see the whale comments as they have to make money somehow to keep the game going - none of the releases prevent anyone from playing/enjoying the game if they aren't purchased. The "Whales" are subsidizing all of the folks who don't spend a dime on the game... never understood where the hate comes from.

I'm hoping with the change in ownership the bundles start slowly going by the wayside. There are a couple of legendary ships I'd love to have, but most of them I have no desire to command.

So Cryptic won't be getting any bundle cash from me.

The irony is if Cryptic went down the route of breaking up all these bundles and selling the ships as separate entity's they would probably make more money just by doing that, They would quickly find players would be more open to buying affordable single legendary tier ships of their choosing if given the chance even if the ships are 50$ odd a pop.

I understand being frustrated that they don't have other purchase offerings for the bundle items, it would be nice to be able to pick and choose. What I don't understand is the disdain heaped on people who buy the bundles and help keep the game running...

It's their money, I don't hate them for how they spend it, I just wish that Cryptic would stop chasing a quick buck.

Of course, this didn't happen until a certain EP took over, *cough* Andre Emerson *cough*.

I wont be buying this bundle. Trying to get the goodies has just gotten way too expensive these days, and I have enough ships.

That said, I have a feeling that all these bundles coming out over the past few years isn't intended to "keep the game alive" as if it's struggling. I don't think it's struggling, I think it's rapacious, even though I don't like tossing that word around.

I'm doing the same as with every other game I play: if I enjoy the game and want something because I enjoy it, I buy it. I'm in the lucky position to be able to afford that. I got the original Legendary bundle because there were at least three ships in there I enjoy and love (Defiant, Sovereign and Odyssey), so I got it.

That being said, I don't like the business model of exclusivity. I can understand it but I don't like it. But hating on the people who spend money on games is just stupid. If anyone deserves the hate it's the execs (NOT devs) that made the business model, players just work with the tools they are given. And if that means the OP stuff is pay to win, then that's on the company that made that decision.

The 10th bundle discounted to what it is now (19500 is it? It has been cheaper than that at least once mind you) isn't that bad of a deal as the T6 versions by themselves would cost more than that but I can certainly understand how and why people are hesitant. I do have the 10th but I waved back and forth on it a number of times. I think with STO it can be particularly pronounced compared to other games as it's developed something of a reputation as a cash grab over the last few years and it's harder to sell to the majority of the player base as they're all expecting to get taken for a ride at this point, so whales aside, I feel there's less impulse buying and it's leant more towards folks buying something because they actually want it rather than just ooh, shiny!

That said, I'm not a fan of them adding in various other items in an attempt to try and justify a high price tag, which was a criticism of the 11th bundle - why not just save the sales gymnastics and make it a touch cheaper, particularly in the current climate were the cost of living is starting to spike. I suspect the same may be said of the 12th bundle too, if they'd ever stop with the radio silence and just tell people what's going to be on offer, teasing it with 1 bit of info then ignoring it just creates annoyance rather than anticipation.

We'll see what changes (if anything) once Embracer are the ones in charge.
