Despite the various complaints about the newer movies they were all impressive films visually and has some very good portrayals of the TOS crew.
I think another film will be entertaining and I certainly enjoyed the others despite their flaws.
And remember; were it not for ST:09 I doubt we’d have the resurgence of Trek content we have now, including the very existence of STO that many of us enjoy.

I like JJtrek. If they follow the pattern, the next Trek should get us to San Francisco in the mid-'80s, right? ST4: The Voyage Home was the second best TOS movie (ST2: TWoK is #1, of course), and a Kelvin update could be interesting. Simon Pegg talking to a computer mouse? Yes please. There will be much rending of clothes and gnashing of teeth no matter what story they come up with, so they should just go for the gold. Be fearless. But PLEASE Do not Kelvinize ST5: The Final Frontier!
And if we could get some nifty new Kelvin ships out of it? Even better.

The 3rd has to be my favorite of the Kelvin Films, but like Taku said, more new Kelvin Ships makes me Giddy, Kelvin Miranda and Excelsior?

The statement "advancing the Kelvin Timeline is good for Trek, and good for the fans" is basically accepting a low standard. People nowadays don't appreciate the good character writing in the 80's. If I compare now and then, female characters we much more powerful in TNG. Femine, yet strong. And not everyone is a winner, whihc ios part of life. I'd rather have JJ stay away from Star trek; he doesn't care nor does he respect the source material.

The Kelvin timeline was an interesting idea, but I think the execution of it in the first 2 films was rather hit and miss. Leaving aside the new concepts, ships, the visual appeal and whatnot, Star Trek tying itself back into the Prime timeline to show how it came to be was a good choice to build off what came before, but I felt the film was otherwise a bit dull and lifeless. Star Trek Into Darkness, while not bad, was a bit of a misstep as it being essentially a rehash of Wrath of Khan meant the new universe was avoiding standing on its own feet, which is what it needed.
Star Trek Beyond got it right - it stood on its own (though you could argue it still lifted a few elements from the original films), it felt the most like TOS vibe we knew as it had the flavour of the original episodes with a few easter eggs thrown in (such as Scotty mentioning about a forcefield in the shape of a giant green hand) and had the advantage of it being the 50th anniversary... but then Paramount botched the handling of the film by releasing it in the crowded summer market instead of holding off for an extra few weeks and taking advantage of the anniversary date.
The Kelvin timeline has legs and while it can relate and reference its heritage, they need to keep the Beyond frame of mind and let it do its own thing instead of copying what came before.
