Episode Discussion
"Rosetta"
US Airdate: 03/03/2022 (Paramount+)
International: 04/03/22 from various sources, may be available to buy/rent on Amazon Prime - moving to Paramount+ in 2022
This thread is for the pre and post discussion of the Season 4 episode "Rosetta" - this will be a spoiler filled discussion so if you've found your way past the warnings in the activity stream and the spoiler tag on the thread, this is your last chance to turn back, or at least it will be at the end of this first post. You have been warned!
With the announcement that CBS pulled Discovery from a uniform international distribution until early-mid 2022, I'll keep making the threads for those that can see it, but I'll not be including polls for this season.
While Captain Burnham leads an away mission to a planet that was once home to Species C-10 who are responsible for the DMA, Book and Tarka secretly infiltrate the U.S.S. Discovery.
Some promo shots of the upcoming episode can be found here. The trailer may or may not work depending on your region.
"Rosetta" is the eleventh episode, 11 of 13.

I've just watched this episode and I've got to say that I still hate that we don't know who exactly who the 10-C are, although I'm hoping that we learn more about them next week. However, some of what we've learnt is quite interesting as it suggests a culture which is fundamentally different to the ones we know.

I'm feeling a bit cautious at this point in the season. Disco in general seems to really push the interpersonal relationship buttons as the answer to most problems, which is really weird for a show that seems to have struggled to really get us to know and see character growth outside of Burnham, Saru, and a few others. I feel like after all the doom and destruction we've seen all season, it may be a letdown if it ends with them hugging it out, since the big takeaway this week is that the common ground with 10c is emotion. Not everything needs to end in an epic space battle, but last season's burn reveal was a bit of a letdown and I didn't feel like the Emerald Chain had truly earned the right to be the big bad. If 10c similarly ends up with just an "oops my bad. Sorry I didn't know" ending and/or Tarka doesn't pan out to be a supervillan in his own right it may be underwhelming.
