The Countdown to Canon is complete. As of this morning at midnight, four Star Trek Online ships have appeared in Star Trek Picard, officially making them canon vessels. And we want to celebrate with you. I was wondering if I should get the Inquiry if it's available for Lobi... unfortunately I don't have the Lobi for it. Probably not worth trying to get it in time for this sale. Shame, it's basically the only lockbox ship I am even remotely interested in.

Just to put it into money terms, while it's nice to see a promo ship becoming a bit more widely available, even if it's only for a short time and the Inquiry is a nice ship (I used my previous event token to get it) - still think twice on it at the sale price as while it's obviously cheaper than gambling a promo box, 960 lobi is a minimum of 160 lock boxes and thus 16 key packs assuming you get 6 lobi per box, which you probably won't as it varies from 4 to 6. That translates into a key cost of 18,000 ZEN.

Keys currently sell for 12,400,000 taking the cheapest price. The EC value of that would be 1.984 billion - the Inquiry is currently available on the exchange for 723m at the cheapest price, which is a bargain considering it's a promo ship. That would be 60 (rounded off) keys at 6750 zen. So still more expensive than a regular T6 ship, but you'll have cut your outlay by roughly 62% if you really want the ship and you're starting out from scratch or have no lobi reserves.

Also worth noting that although not identical, the Lexington Class released a week ago is almost the same as the Inquiry and considerably cheaper to acquire.

The Lexington get a built in lance weapon, a hanger bay, and extra device slot compared to the Inquiry.

From the now canon ships I can recommend the Gagarin obviously and surprisingly also the Ross which is a great Torp platform for my playstyle.

I have to say, I didn't realise that they'd canonised some of the STO ships in Picard until I read this article and it's actually amazing they've done so and I can see the STO team are super pleased for that.

I wonder if we'll see more of STO be canonised in the near future although I do doubt it. It's also nice to see them putting a sale on as a celebration of that happening along with moving a promo ship to lobi, albiet temporarily. Maybe they'll find that people are willing to buy more, if they make it more accessible.

not gonna lie the ships that have been made cannon are all ships l like the look of, looking forward to seeing screen quality rendering of them this weekend when i have time to watch picard.

wouldnt mind seeing a few others make the list of STO ships to transition to screen quality rendering however i doubt any will.

I said it before and I'll say it again: I'm a huge fan of the Odyssey (and thus the Enterprise-F) and I wish they would include it in Picard. It already appeared in the comics, just give it the screentime it deserves!

Good chance we might see more STO ships become Canon since Picard has a new Production Designer who reached out in regards to new ships. Nice they're rectifying the lack of ship diversity by using already established designs.

Of course Cryptic would capitalize on putting out a bundle discount due to this. Nice some of the select ships are canonized. I'm sure there might be some model updates to them in STO due to this if they haven't already undergone treatment before.

Since the Stargazer model is featured, maybe Cryptic will overhaul the "Heavy Cruiser" in STO; the same that the Constellation model uses also... There is no T6 equivalent as I have been using a Fleet T5-U for this reason...

Whether or not you like STO, Cryptic clearly has tried to deliver really high quality ship models in the game. For their ship artists to be contacted to drop in their work straight into a 4K tv program that is really one of the marquee shows for Paramount's whole streaming strategy has to be incredibly validating of their years of hard work. It also shows they heard the fan disappointment with the USS Copy/Paste fleet last year.

As far as the sale, yes it feels opportunistic, but at the same time they could have left stuff full price and relied on the buzz to rake in some cash at the full price, and/or immediately push the new Stargazer as the next Promo box ship instead. I personally already had the Gagarin and Reliant unlocked, and pulled the former out yesterday to run a few TFOs after watching the season 2 opener, but it is nice to know it wouldn't have cost me $30 to do the same if I didn't have some of them.
