The data scientist in me is fascinated at the amount of effort put in by the community to reverse engineer the mechanics of this system and provide the cost comparisons between selling keys vs. trying your luck yourself with keys. The consumer in me remains content to not waste my money chasing gamble boxes. The Neverwinter system sounds like a slight improvement, but it seems like that change would likely just improve supply (and maybe drive down EC costs), not change the dynamic to make it cheaper to gamble than to buy keys.

I only open boxes when I want Lobi and that's always been the only reason I open them. The other side of the coin here is if everyone stopped opening said boxes a few things would happen they would rethink them and ship supply would dry up and prices would inflate further on those that are already about.

The STO "pity" system, if you can call it that even, is just a complete joke and should not be getting used as an example of how to play the gambling game

Realistically the cost of these lockbox ships is outrageous; when you consider 200+ keys on average for a single ship on a single character. Based of a zen price of 125 per key you're looking at a rough figure of 25,000Z for a single ship! That's far above even the insane costs of a legendary ship.

The best advice is simply don't take the gamble. Buy the ship off the exchange if you must and let the whales (idiots with more money than sense) or those going for Lobi and getting lucky be the ones to open the boxes.

That's unfortunately how I'm feeling about everything with the game these days, don't give them money...save up the ec.

I know covid really screwed things up and slowed things down, but that was over 2 years ago, it seems like the only thing that has improved since covid came was the frequency of them releasing these expensive legendary packs

Covid started two years ago and it maybe ended over half a year ago. They also have to make up for the Magic disaster. They lost so many devs they can't even make a new Reputation or Fleet Holding not to mention all the money they lost.
