The Starship scan in this diagram indicates no starships, planetary bodies or asteroids are in direct vacinity to player's starship.



This dot indicates a starship or can indicate a photon torpedo.

• These lines reading from left to right indicate your scanner's Kilometer range. Any weapon fired within the vicinity (of 5,000) your starship would have difficulty avoiding object even if your starship is already performing evasive maneuvers. This range is a very dangerous to be within when facing a target with torpedoes.

• At 30,000 kilos you have more real estate at which to work with meaning you have another turn before the enemy's torpedoes will be capable of reaching you at near 5000 kilos. If ambushed at this range you still have time to raise shields before impact.

• When at 50,000 kilometers this is the optimal range to be for long range or grouped attacks. Most Starfleet Taskforces use attack formations at this range during initial battles. It allows all grouped starships enough space to change their formations while being maintaining at far enough distance to still possess the time to defend against attacks.
