Though the power to shield the mind from a Telepath's senses, especially when they are already honed in on it takes quite a feat. That or it shifted to a species that was resistant naturally but those.. shouldn't affect its mind. Thane closed his eyes with his hand resting near his Disruptor which is still set to Stun and by nature had the Klingon 'Stun' setting just in case. The Engineer being offered to assign to them. Lt Urqhart which then shifted to a denial. Christine? Thane shot Biiqs a withering look as he halted the idea before even letting him have a word.

He turned to Urquhart with an almost pained expression. "Christine, disregard that. You had no part in their deaths, that is solely the fault of the enemy. No one could have foreseen that. Please carry on with my earlier orders. You're doing fine."

Christine smiled at Cmdr. Tarquin, saying, "Aye sir, thank you sir. I'll take care of the torpedoes, if you don't mind." She rose & took her station.

Christine had a few moments to look over the traffic data. She heard the request from the station, acknowledged the request, then opened ship wide comms.

Blue indicator lights pulsed around the bridge. She sent a ready message to the station, then she leaned back & sighed. Christine now had a touch of time to consider Frov's words. Did he think, she thought, I had some blame in those officers deaths? Surely not. The words from Frov started to bubble warm in her head. She took a moment to calm herself, as this was starting to make her angry. Trying to brush off the anger, Christine shook her head. It made her ponytail swing.

Ensign Kowlaski immediately spins draws and fires his phaser hitting Lt. Wales center mass. All four remaining security officers fire their phasers and successfully hit Ensign Kowlaski. His body goes limp as he crumples to the flooring. Just as his mouth opens a creature exits and quickly skitters across the bridge deck... several of the Security officers now without their commanding officers began firing towards the creature.

The other two officers try their best to keep Lt. Wales alive... but he succumbs to his wound. The rest of the bridge officers back away from the area of the bridge that the creature has headed towards. One of the security officers secures the wrists of Ensign Kowlaski and directs the remaining security personnel to take him to sickbay. He then leans over to pick up the sidearm of the former alien host...


Kowlaski's phaser was set to the highest setting. While ours were set to stun... Wales... didn't have a chance.


I get that Officer but let's try and just concentrate on finding that damn alien... please?

I am assuming command of security here until Lt. Commander Thane arrives. First, when you feel the need to dress down a subordinate, please be careful about the time and environment you chose to do it in. There's a flaw in his awareness, especially with those he keeps a mind on. That sudden loss, the pain, the snuff of life. His jaw squared as he got messaged by another Officer. Commander, there seems to be some miscommunication here... I don't blame Lt. Urquhart for their deaths, they may yet still be alive because only one of them has been located since they went into the jefferies tube. What I am upset with Lt. Urquhart about is the fact that she ordered three NCO's and an ensign down the Jefferies tube and didn't care to follow up on them after they finished taking care of the short ranged communications problem. And this was before the parasite made it's way inside the Jefferies tube.

((Leans in towards Commander Bliiqs)) I admit I could have chosen a more discrete method of conveying my sentiments to her and I will not commit the same act again... however I am fully aware of her accomplishments on paper and at Starfleet Academy. ((face hardens)) But leadership is defined by taking responsibility... and I believe that she is content with giving orders but not as astute in truly completely overseeing the process so that it gets completed from beginning to end after she initially gives the order...

One more thing Commander, she also changed the Fearless alert status without running it through the only two people on this starship that have that authority...you or Lt. Commander Thane first. May I? ((Initiates PADD recording))

My abilities in Psionics were never officially trained on paper. My mother personally aided with my development being a very strong telepath herself. I am proficient only in touch telepathy. The sole person I have been able to develop a strong psychic bond with is my mother. I can feel her psychic signature without applying my hands to her.


I am sorry but I do not wish to reveal anything in regards to my history in telepathy. I would prefer to just get back to my duties. I am sure there is enough information readily accessible within my documented files that you already have access to, Sir.

Shuttle Bay - Deck 20 - Stardate 58370.2 - July 18, 2381 - 03:00

The automated drones flew quickly inside the docking bay dropping in the large freight containers. Engineering officers rushed towards the multiple torpedo storage receptacles placing them upon initiated hovering moving units allowing more efficient travel. The Engineering officers then took the floating bins to Deck 13 Main Engineering, where the Torpedo Launching Systems bays could be located.

In just over 30 minutes of time all of the torpedo bays were filled to capacity. One of the Engineers notated the completion of the loading process upon her PADD and then noticed someone disoriented shaking their head to regain their bearings. The individual was then identified as an Ensign, relayed that she was able to escape from two other Engineering NCO's who tried to physically assault her.

Medical staff along with Security Officers arrived. After a brief exchange the individual was detained and brought immediately to Sick bay...


((=^=)) Lt. Commander Thane, I contacted you instead of the Commander due to him being in a meeting... we've found one of the missing Engineers that went into the Jefferies tube. She's alive but albeit disoriented. No sign of entry or exit of the parasite through her neck or mouth. She should be prepared to speak with you if you wish to ask her any questions.


She's got a number of scrapes, cuts, and bruises but overall she is fine.

4 of the Officers present attune their Tricorders simultaneously to the before mentioned frequency level and in unison all steady raised their settings. Not more then 2 minutes later the parasite lept from the hole opening screeching loudly. Several of the Security officers fire their side arms along with 3 others which wield rifles.

The parasite is hit and immediately goes limp after a few spasms. With phaser rifles and sidearms drawn the Security Officers encircle the non moving parasite as bridge officer Celo places the parasite within a transparent aluminum container. As soon as everyone upon the bridge hears the locking mechanism complete, they all exhale in jubilant relief.


Lt. Commander Thane, the parasite has been neutralized... we will move it to the secured location upon DECK 7 with your permission?

Christine went with the ensign, as a lingering thought went through her head. Maybe I should be more attentive to my crews. She said, inwardly. Was she trusting too much in people's abilities? She had to put this to the back of her thoughts as they arrived in Sickbay. As the doctors settled the ensign in on one of the medical beds, Christine said, in a bit of a strained voice, "I should've checked in on you guys. I am so sorry." She patted the ensign on the shoulder & asked, "Can you tell me what happened?"

Biiqs listened patiently to Sokel’s words, mouth locked tight in what could only be described as a neutrally stern position, if such a thing were possible. He hadn’t yet mastered a captain’s poker-face – it didn’t matter how long he’d been in a position of authority as a non-com or department head, the high stakes of the big chair brought on their own stresses. So he couldn’t prevent a slight grimace when Sokel brought out the padd with Christine’s declaration. He remembered the time stamp on his own order – hers was issued just moments before. It seemed petty, but relevant all the same. Sokel had him there.

He thought carefully on his words for a moment and took a breath before speaking. “Commander Sokel…it is laudable to encourage young officers to complete tasks from start to finish, however…the wording of your suggestion to Lt. Urquhart implied that she was responsible for the deaths, although it did not directly say so. There was a high probability that the lieutenant could construe that you meant to do so, and worse than that, any officers in hearing range of your comments could believe that. That is precisely the thing that we do not need, especially with this uncommon day of causalities. I urge you to take more care with your words and your choice of venue in dealing with your staff. Also, as to the appropriateness of your request, Lt. Urquhart is an engineer, not a security officer. It is not appropriate to send her on a non-engineering task, especially a dangerous one, when we have specialists trained to do so. If Christine would have gone and been hurt, would that be your responsibility for sending her?” Biiqs nodded in agreement with his rhetorical question. “Had I not been there to belay it, I would have held it against you if such a circumstance occurred. Thane listened to both Vulcans, one untrained officially but then Vulcans are as far as he knows are well-educated folk. He preferred Betazoids or other Psionically gifted personnel rather than a touch telepath, however. The other officer though who proved to be far more secretive caught his attention some as she tried to dodge the question and shift to pointing to her file. "Thank you both for the clarifications. However.." He looked to the young woman who seemed quite intent on concealing information. "You are sure that there is enough information? You are aware that we are on a time crunch for dealing with this threat. Correct?" He asks pointedly. "However Touch telepathy may not be as useful in this scenario in tracking the parasites amidst the chorus of minds that is this ship. I do appreciate your time. You are dismissed unless you have any insights you can share on dealing with these entities."

Really, ok then... that's our angle. We will just have to guess... Everyone that has a tricorder device turn your tricorder to frequency to 2.2.31. Then gradually raise it on my mark. Security Officers set your phaser rifles to stun. Everyone get ready!

4 of the Officers present attune their Tricorders simultaneously to the before mentioned frequency level and in unison all steady raised their settings. Not more then 2 minutes later the parasite lept from the hole opening screeching loudly. Several of the Security officers fire their side arms along with 3 others which wield rifles.

The parasite is hit and immediately goes limp after a few spasms. With phaser rifles and sidearms drawn the Security Officers encircle the non moving parasite as bridge officer Celo places the parasite within a transparent aluminum container. As soon as everyone upon the bridge hears the locking mechanism complete, they all exhale in jubilant relief.


Lt. Commander Thane, the parasite has been neutralized... we will move it to the secured location upon DECK 7 with your permission?

CHAPTER 3: "ASSEMBLY OF THE GUARD"

There are a lot of lives resting on the discussion that we are about to have so Gentlemen... let's get on with it. The latest information regarding the Parasitic War has arrived. While you all are reading I will relay what I personally know... we here could be the very last of the remaining Admirals within Starfleet that have not been compromised....

From now on it is paramount that we all only communicate information between us, and that all of you maintain screen testing and relay the information each hour to me and me only. In the event of me being compromised I have designated Admiral Rosea Merandez to take over my position as acting Fleet Admiral.

However, I have also sent you all an emergency frequency that you can activate by just tapping your badge in the event you believe you will become a host for the parasite. This lets us know that if you are seen again after sending the signal, we will know that you are in all likelihood not in control of your mental functions and should not be considered an active Starfleet Officer. A number of our science teams have conducted a series of tests involving the parasitic life-form that we are now calling Remmick Neural Parasite, otherwise known as Species R.N.P. The species is named after the late Dexter Remmick who became a reproductive host body for the parasites who was discovered and killed by Commodore Picard and Captain Riker when they were serving aboard the USS Enterprise D. "The Remmick Neural Parasite" should not be confused with the Denevan Neural Parasite which was discovered more than 100 years ago by Captain James T. Kirk. The Denevan Neural Parasite was shaped like a stingray or similar to a pancake in circumference, they would then attach themselves to your back to enter your spine and ultimately your brain stem.

The Denevan Neural Parasites seemed to only want to move from planet to planet invading and infesting as many individuals it could. The RNP Parasite seems to only be targeting us, and all Starfleet affiliated starships, starbases, and planetary systems. We have not located any warships or any alien technology linked to the RNP Parasite. There is one thing that both types of parasites share in common... their detest for light. We are continuing to run tests to find out what the correct frequency is that we can use that will cause the RNP Parasite to become unconscious or what the correct level is to terminate it's life. Once this is found we will relay this information to all of you so that you can adjust your starships accordingly. Admiral Janeway?


I shouldn't have to remind any of you that we are facing this along with the disappearance of the Dominion. We continue to receive reports of countless Dominion starships without any indications of phaser fire or weapons being used of any kind. There are some of us who are suggesting that the Dominion may have encountered these parasites and may have even succumbed to them entirely.

There are also rumors that the parasites could be paving the way for some other entity that we have not yet encountered to invade us. Right now we can only be certain of one thing. These parasites want the destruction of Starfleet for some reason and we cannot allow them under any circumstances to be successful. Questions? Anyone?

“By the ancient stars!” Biiqs took in the carnage of the bridge, Wales…Kowalski….and the creature inside the container clutched by Ensign Celo. “Tarquin to Sickbay, Medical Emergency on the Bridge! Status report,” he said, turning to the officer of the watch.

I ordered the rest of the crew off the Bridge until we could contain the target. Lt. Wales was killed by the host, Sir. The Parasite was controlling Ensign Kowalski when it fired upon Lt. Wales.Target has been neutralized Sir, we also have a live specimen. We are going to take it to DECK 7 to secure it... with your permission?

It was horrible... but it didn't start that way... everything was fine for awhile as we checked for severed cables. NCO Page then started making loud noises after he reattached a line. We all didn't know what was going on... he fell on his back and just laid there for like 5 minutes. We couldn't get him to respond at all! Then he opened his eyes and immediately started trying reaching for us! He was so fast! He got a hold of Hanson, then he... he just hurled him like a rag doll into the wall of the Jefferies tube.

And then he came after me... his eyes... ((turns into Lt. Urquhart's shoulder and cries for a full 3 minutes)) His head would snap back and forth like an insect! I tried to pull my phaser but I was too afraid... and then he had me. His hands squeezed my against arms... I couldn't move! Then Frost hit him with his phaser but and it was brilliant light in darkness so we all were temporarily blinded. He must have turned around and got a hold of Frost or Hanson because I heard one of them scream! I just took off and ran in the darkness as fast as I could.

I then fell down a shaft and then came to my senses from the pain of landing. I managed to work my way to the loading bay from following the diagram on my PADD. I don't know if Frost or Hansen are still alive. But we have to try to find them... I just cannot go back down there! I won't!

Christine held her close in a comforting embrace, just letting her sob. "It's okay," she said quietly, "you're safe now."

Christine stayed at the officer's side for a bit. Unbidden thought running through her head. Suddenly, she had an idea. A memory of some sort of talk her & her dad had about knock-out gasses. "Doc," she said, "would any type of knock-out agent work on certain lifeforms, but not others?"
