    Currently close to finishing the event that allows you to get one of these ships, have not decided which of the three yet but I'm fairly certain there is little difference between them.

    Would like help with a relatively cheap build for DPS as well as still being able to take a hit. Most likely an engineering captain using phasers and torpedoes.

    FED -- Phaser
    KDF -- Disruptor
    ROM -- Plasma
    So that can have an effect on console selection. Right now the DeePS meta seems to be phasers, so keep that in mind.

    Having said that, you can never go wrong with a Valkis. Ask me how I know.

    Just a word of caution:
    the pet DPS is NOT affected from any damage type boosts by consoles etc. So, from a DPS standpoint it does not matter whether they bear Phaser, Disruptor or Plasma. For visuals it does for many people.

    Unfortunately I would prefer not to do a science build, I've never tried one before but it doesn't look like something that suits my play style that well.

    Taku, I was looking at the build you had earlier. However, it used Ba'ul weapon sets which I have no idea how to acquire and don't think I could afford to. If its just those used and none of the consoles boost antiproton damage I'll probably just swap them for standard phasers. Would that work or does it need a bit more changing?

    • 3-part and 4-part set bonus from the Iconian Resistance Starship Technologies set: Damage increase and additional effects to team.
    • Weapon proc: Disruptor, Corrosive Plasma or Coalition Disruptor: chance to lower the target's damage resistance so pets can deal higher damage.

    The Ba'Ul weapons are there because a LONG time ago I settled on Antiproton weapons. I got hold of a set of Herald Antiproton Beam Arrays, and I liked the pretty purple beams. Ever since then I have been collecting Antiproton consoles and weapons. The Ba'Ul weapons are just the latest. There are a couple of Universe builds out there that try to make the Temporal Heavy a decent tanker.

    But if we're honest with ourselves, we're not getting a Universe Class or a Durgath or a Valkis to make DeePS runs, we get one so that we look good doing it. Out of the box they're pigs to fly and massively underpowered. The trait is junk (spelled c-r-a-p), and the pets are better as ADV frigates than Elite. There are FAR better choices for combat vessels in the game that come at a far lower price. And speaking of price, never forget that these things can sell for MAX EC on the Exchange. So maybe consider listing a Universe or a Valkis on the market and then get something you'll get some real use from.

    A Temporal Heavy Dreadnought is NOT a logical purchase. It makes no sense tactically. It is all about having the ship just to have the ship. That's why I have my Valkis: To have a Valkis. But when I have to play the game, I'm calling up my Science Pilot Warbird (or more recently, my Mars Pilot Escort).

    What ships would you recommend getting then. Personally I much prefer ships such as cruisers and dreadnought cruisers. Are there any ships of that sort you would recommend? I was also looking at the Styx Terran Dreadnought, not sure how good that is though.

    It certainly isn't, I used my Universe for about a day then the buyer's remorse set in though it does help complete the Enterprise Collection of the various classes.

    All your talk has got me thinking though, I can't stretch to a Valkis but I can lay my hands on a Dhailkhina Strike Warbird and I'm debating it for my poorly neglected Romulan character. Granted it's better suited to a cannon build, but I would stick with beams, as all I'd be missing is a Zhat Vash omni to stuff in the rear. Decisions, decisions!

    I say, as I fly the Universe Temporal Heavy Dreadnought as my main, it depends on what kind of playstyle you like. If you like to build your damage from space magic and/or torpedoes, then the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts synergize quite well with the Cmdr Temporal seating helping with Unconventional Systems and space magic while the LtCmdr Command helps with torpedoes with Concentrate Firepower III. Furthermore, the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts have a Gravitic Lance that scales off of EPG (space magic stuff) and also comes with a GOOD console that can allow you to fire the lance more often, often enough to be considered for DPS.

    On the other hand, if you want to do a Directed Energy Weapon build (cannons/beams), while you can still do fine with it, I'd say you're probably better picking a different ship since the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts are only 4/4 ships and not 5/3 for weapon configuration in addition to the fact that Temporal and Command are better utilized for Space Magic and Torpedoes respectively.

If you like to build your damage from space magic and/or torpedoes, then the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts synergize quite well with the Cmdr Temporal seating helping with Unconventional Systems and space magic while the LtCmdr Command helps with torpedoes with Concentrate Firepower III. Furthermore, the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts have a Gravitic Lance that scales off of EPG (space magic stuff) and also comes with a GOOD console that can allow you to fire the lance more often, often enough to be considered for DPS.

    On the other hand, if you want to do a Directed Energy Weapon build (cannons/beams), while you can still do fine with it, I'd say you're probably better picking a different ship since the Temporal Heavy Dreadnoughts are only 4/4 ships and not 5/3 for weapon configuration in addition to the fact that Temporal and Command are better utilized for Space Magic and Torpedoes respectively.
    Considering all the feedback, I've decided I'm probably going to get either the Styx Terran Dreadnought or Miracle Worker Flight Deck Carrier. Currently looking mostly at the FDC as it seems more damage focused than the Styx, which I've heard is quite tanky. Just gonna have to find builds for either of those instead now. Thanks for being honest about the ship though, I appreciate it.

    The Arbiter (EWC trait, C-Store) or Atlas (DPRM console, Infinity T6 ship pack or the Exchange) are good places to start digging for things you might want. You're not going to find a DeePS build in one ship. If you could, then there wouldn't be a need to get anything else.

    But you'll need to have some idea of how you want to play before you go buying stuff. That's why the typical answer to "Which ship should I get with this free ship token?" is going to be "It depends on how you play the game."

    Torp Boats, Beam Boats, Space Wizards (EPGs), Tanks, Glass Cannons. . . Figure that out first. And check the reading links.

    It certainly isn't, I used my Universe for about a day then the buyer's remorse set in though it does help complete the Enterprise Collection of the various classes.

    All your talk has got me thinking though, I can't stretch to a Valkis but I can lay my hands on a Dhailkhina Strike Warbird and I'm debating it for my poorly neglected Romulan character. Granted it's better suited to a cannon build, but I would stick with beams, as all I'd be missing is a Zhat Vash omni to stuff in the rear. Decisions, decisions!
    Are you saying that you regret buying the Fed version and wish it were the Valkis? I am still considering the Durgoth, I don't have a cool KDF ship and I don't like most of them, but really like the Durgoth.

    Nope, regret it entirely buying into them. While having the Universe is nice from a collector's standpoint, as a playable ship it's just too unwieldy for day to day play for my tastes. The day to day ship on my main varies between the 32nd C Constitution and the Inquiry.
