Hello everyone! Live Long and Prosper

If you're planning to create a scientist on STO (or a tactician in a science ship doing science things...) you will probably want to know where to get some first and basic items in order to begin your voyage. These items might not always be state of the art, but in my eyes they're a good start. Oh... that rhymes! Dance

    SKILL TREE, SPEC & R&D

Let us first start with your skill tree. I did some research on the borderless world wide web and found a tree that seems to be quite interesting:

    Name: science.png
Views: 274
Size: 396.1 KB

I think it is advisable to use TEMPORAL AGENT as your primary spacialisation (+Exotic Damage) and COMMAND OFFICER or CONSTABLE as your secondary one.

If you want to have the space trait PARTICLE MANIPULATOR (again: +Exotic Damage) you should make sure to level R&D Science up to level 15. It is worth it!

    ITEMS, ITEMS, ITEMS

Alright, items make the universe go round so let's finally have a look at our shopping list:

Episode: New Frontiers - Scylla and Charybdis:
    - Bajor Defence Deflector

Episode: Future Proof - Time and Tide:
    - Console - Tactical - Chronometric Capacitor
    - Omni Directional Chronometric Polaron Beam Array
    - Chronometrc Polaron Beam Array

Episode: Future Proof - Temporal Reckoning:
    - Console - Science - Temporally Shielded Datacore

Episode: The Iconian War - Blood of Ancients:
    - BOFF ability and traning manual: Destabilising Resonance

Episode: The Iconian War - Butterfly:
    - Temporal Phase Overcharged Warp / Singularity Core
    - Console - Science - Temporal Distanglement Suite

    Episode: Gamma Quadrant - Home:
    - Morphogenic Polaron Energy Weapon
    - Morphogenic Energy Torpedo Launcher
    - Console - Tactical - Morphogenic Matrix Controller

Episode: J'Ula's Discovery - Para Pacem:
    - Console - Science - Particle Generator (can be equipped more than once)

Episode: Klingon Civil War - Leap of Faith:
    - Console - Tactical - Fek'ihri Torment Engine

Okay, this concludes this little overview. I hope it will help you! Smile

Have lots of fun and see you around up there among the stars... or in Quark's bar! Live Long and Prosper

Not bad suggestions on chasing a starter space wizardry build! I'd maybe caveat that the skill tree suggested is geared more towards a classic "sci-torp" build and not necessarily one geared towards a "DEW-Sci" build leaning into beams or cannons as part of your damage, as this skill tree is weak on supporting energy weapons.

I also thought it was curious on your suggestions for specializations. While Temporal Operative is typical for the primary since it gives a healthy passive boost to your Exotic Particle Generator skill and several benefits to your exotic abilities, your suggestions on secondary specialization are a bit unusual. Typically most people run Strategist as a secondary on such builds for the extra crit benefits. Constable is geared toward a single-target approach via the "antagonist" mechanic, so it doesn't really mesh well with the AOE-heavy nature of most science builds. Command Officer provides some torpedo perks and extra hull health (which is often a weak point for sci boats), but again generally these benefits aren't as good as extra crit to both your torps and your exotic attacks.
