If you manage to log in once (after a fresh install or a roughly 10 gig patch), do the following:
While the game is still open, go to your STO installation directory, for me "D :\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live" and copy the "x64"-directory to a different location.
If you want to start the game again later on, open the STO launcher, let it patch and after it has finished, overwrite the "x64"-directory in Live with your backup you created previously.
This should allow you to log in again without a fresh install or massive patch.
Note: I can only test this on one computer, no guarantees it works on every system.

Looks like they pushed a new patch.
You might need to back up the x64 again.
I haven't been able to log back in to validate if this still works.

Posted it in the chatbox but they're working on an alternate deployment for the fix but have no ETA on when it will actually go live, so you can either keep trying or wait until they officially confirm the fix is actually live and do it then.
