So my temporal recruit character is like my 9th character so I'm not particularly interested in min/maxing or building anything tremendously expensive, however I have been building some themes on my alts lately for fun.

I have finally had an excuse with this character to dress an entire officer crew in the monster maroon, so I have been trying to come up with some good ideas for how to make a late-TOS film-era ship to go with it. The two(three sorta) choices i've found which don't use zen, lockboxes, or lobi are the Excelsior, or either version of the Soyuz/Miranda. It just doesn't seem like there's that much Wrath of Khan-style stuff in the game to work with.

So I've got a few questions, first being: Are there any other TOS film-era ships at t6/fleet (but no zen/lobi/lb) to pick from? I don't know of any.

Second, are there any really cool thematic slam-dunk gear i should look into?

I took a look at a few of the starship battle scenes in II, III, and VI (i'm ignoring the special effects in V for what I hope are sadly obvious reasons...) and it appears the phasers animated in II are orange- red- and/or white-ish so I am thinking any of the "modern" phasers should do. I probably won't use the 23c phaser arrays because I find the particular sound effect they use in STO to be really irritating. The torpedos fired by the enterprise in III and VI are red so photons would do, but I am not sure if this is a great candidate to mix beam arrays and a torpedo. Especially on the Excelsior, with only 3 tac officer powers to choose from. I know of energy polaron and disruptor type torpedos, is there a phaser type torpedo?

I think I'll probably just use a few blue technicians to make the boff skills run since they're not particularly expensive and it works without needing any complicated traits or whatever.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm also looking for ground gear that might match the Wrath of Khan aesthetic as well. I feel like the regular phaser look is probably close enough to the gear in VI for me (maybe the fleet stuff to avoid the blue holograms), if the 23c stuff have the sound effects from the original series which I honestly find kind of annoying.

I am not aware of any T6 TOS/TMP Era Ships that are not either Zen-Store/Lockbox or Promo Pack.

Your only option is to the Campaign Event and get the Temporal T6 Connie at the end.

Ok, after some thinking this is what i've come up with.

Forgive me for improvising the format, I don't have this stuff yet so I can't really post a screenshot.

I thought about using the Reliant reskinned to look like the WOK Miranda because I apparently actually have it from some promo pack, but the Excelsior is just too perfect as the fancy new ship in ST 3 so I'm gonna make that work. I want tier 6 terran rep for the phaser array anyway, and getting 5 tier 6 reps at the same time for 5 FSM's doesn't really take any longer than doing 1 so I might as well get 5.

(to save typing the same things over and over, my upgrade policy for my alts is I upgrade everything to mk 15, and take whatever quality upgrades I get along the way. So everything below is Mk 15 and I'm only going to specify modifiers that are actually re-engineerable, or can be chosen by some other means)

I have a skill tree that I've copied/pasted with minor variation for years on every character that I run a tac-heavy skill setup on and I'm pretty happy with it. I could post it but I feel like it'd be wasting space in an already-way-too-long reply. It's 10/10/26 for Focused Frenzy and the rest is pretty much what you'd expect.

Intel/Strategist cause I think I've used that on every character I have but my one science ship >.>. I feel like I should play Command/Temporal Operative for flavor but I kinda think it'd suck, so meh.

Traits:
For captain traits I might just use the free + R&D ones for this character. All the other ones I like are expensive I also might not bother with Elite Captain Training since I believe it's still quite expensive. I'm also probably going to skip the extra trait slots from the fleet shops for now.

I had a spare A Good Day to Die, and the rest will probably be something like this:
Accurate, Advanced Rapid Support, Beam Barrage, (Superior) Beam Training, Fleet Coordinator, Innocuous, Operative, Point Blank Shot

Unless I can get my hands on an extra Intelligence Agent Attache

So I somehow missed that the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator has apparently been changed to not be bound to only warbirds since April, apparently...

I think that's going to change a lot of my casual ship builds, including this one

Are there any other things like this I should look into?

Actually I probably wouldn't use that since you can use many other consoles that will provide you with much more of a bonus towards stats rather than a conditional with a 2.5% chance

That console is rather good, it makes shields somewhat useful again as it does quite an insane amount of healing to them. It's per shot as well so if you're running a FAW/CSV build, it procs quite often. I regularly see mine shaping back up again with it equipped.

The Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator is a really good console, I would say it is not needed for normal or advanced content but for Elite without a Tank or Elite Solo it is extremely useful.

It's a classic and it's a lot better than it looks.

I might have to go through my tier 1-5 reclaims to see if there's anything else that got unbound since the last time I looked...

I am curious to see if it rolls on every hit of ba'ul beam arrays, since on my main I thought they were nifty with kemocite and accidentally built something that's apparently like an actual thing I guess. If it procs like crazy like the kemocite (at least looks like it does) it might be kind of hilarious.

Cryptic is pretty bad about announcing these consoles getting unbound from specific ships. Usually if there is a Legendary ship released in a given ship line, they'll go through and look at that kind of thing since they put all those old consoles on the new Legendary ship. It doesn't always happen day 1, but usually the community calls them out pretty quickly when it doesn't happen there.

Outside of Legendary ship releases, updates are less likely. Case in point, the new Cyclone escort can't even use the console from the old Patrol Escort, even though the ships are supposed to be of the same line, let alone the console being opened to other ships. There just isn't the compelling sales reason for Cryptic to invest dev time on old items outside of them being rereleased on a shiny new ship bundle.

I finally got the FSMs to buy the ship today and not only is it perfect for this character but MAN does it have that old new romulus era t5 a2b cruiser nostalgia vibe. no embassy consoles + romulan plasma beams though lol

I also found that Wrath of Khan phaser pistol in the lobi store and couldn't resist.
