Word is breaking today across several outlets that Star Trek: Prodigy, the kid-focused Star Trek series that had already been greenlit for a Season 2, is now officially canceled. Apparently, neither Paramount+ nor Nickelodeon will be airing the show anymore and Season 1 will be getting removed from the Paramount+ streaming service soon. It sounds like post-production for season 2 was already well underway and will be completed, so it may be shopped out to other networks or services.
A few other Paramount+ shows are getting the axe ahead of the formal launch of the unified Paramount+/Showtime service next week, but Prodigy was the only Star Trek property named. With Picard now done and Discovery prepping to bow out after one last season, hopefully SNW and LD stick around, and future projects like the S31 movie and Academy series will still happen.

They're going to try and shop the show to another network from what I read since the second season is almost complete.
I think that the whole Section 31 thing and Academy series should be tossed on the scrapheap - SNW looks like it's flying the flag for Trek now and I'd much rather see the much speculated Legacy series go ahead instead as that's where the interest seems to be.

I've heard elsewhere that this is part of an effort by CBS to thin out their back catalogue on streaming platforms in anticipation of having to shell out more money to the writers of that content after the WGA strike ends.

Streaming services were already under pressure from stockholders to cut costs, but yeah they are probably prepping to also accept that writers are gonna win some concessions this time around which will only add pressure. The main way the "old guard" entertainment companies are approaching budget balancing is selling each other rights to muddy the picture of who is really footing the bill and recording income. Disney has been making similar announcements like this too. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Discovery is ending next season for similar reasons.
I'm hopeful someone will pick Prodigy up and run with it, but I'm not sure how much of a market there might be for it right now. Guess we'll see what happens.

With Prodigy, I tried, I really tried, but I just couldn't get into it.
I feel bad for the fans of the show though and hopefully S2 will find a way to TV so they can at least have some resolution.

Regarding a kid show, to be successful, is all about making it interesting for adults too.
In my opinion they did their a bad job, because they focused to keep the kids friendly rating with no real effort to tie it in for the adult trekkies.
Our beloved ambassador mention it every time people asked for prodigy stuff.

It's not just Paramount+ doing this with their catalogues, Netflix have been culling stuff, not that that is anything new, but even Disney+ is doing the same. I suspect in a few years time services will start to merge up again.

It’s really sad to see the show canceled.
My kids enjoyed it a bit, but they are a bit too old for it.

Some info can be found here regarding Prodigy S2. Robert Picardo appears as the EMH and there's a reveal of the Voyager A. There's no "clean" shot of the ship but it's an unnamed class that has been described as looking like a mash up of the Intrepid, Sovereign and Nova.

The ship class is the Lamarr-Class named after Hedy Lamarr.
