Capt. Janice Thomas was having the roughest day in her short, but active command of the USS Enterprise-F. She woke up with a buzzing headache, which she attributed to a night of heavy drinking & partying, was late for her shift on the bridge(not that it really mattered though), had gotten into an argument with a starbase admiral about a very minute detail on the crew roster and damned near got knocked out by a drone while practicing phaser drills on the holodeck. She was having one hell of a day.
When Thomas came off duty, she said to herself, "I need some me time." She got to her quarters, drew a bath, disrobed and got into the bath tub. She felt a tingling sensation go up her legs, through her torso & into her head. Janice closed her eyes and started to meditate.
She saw her mother baking a fresh loaf of sourdough bread, her favorite. the image faded to when she was a little girl, dreaming of adventures in space and meeting all kinds of alien species from every part of the galaxy. When she thought of these things, she felt happy & her spirit was lifted. After one of her worst days, her spirit was healed.
She heard her mother's voice say, "Have faith, my child. Faith can cure the most broken of spirits and find lost souls in the darkest places."
She opened her eyes and whispered, "Thanks ma."
