At the ShortList awards, Zachary Quinto (Spock) talked about his involvement with the sequel to the reboot movie, Star Trek, describing it as "an enormously fulfilling experience" and stated that it will be "bigger" and "bolder" than it's predecessor.
Quinto also mentioned that his involvement with the project is completed and while he is eager for its release, he is finding fulfillment in producing, writing, and directing other movies and projects.

"Bigger" and "bolder"? Does that mean that it'll have more lens flare than the first one?

Despite all the JJ hate, I loved that first movie, and even went to see it multiple times (Something I hadn't done since I was a kid), so I'm very excited to see what they do with this one. I like being excited for Star Trek movies again!
JJ's Star Trek brought me back from the abyss of not being a Star Trek fan, where Nemesis had pushed me.

I have been in the same boat, but I'm not quite back yet. I enjoyed the first JJ movie, just not sure where he'll take us. Mirror universe/alternate timelines are an odd plot device, hard to pull of if you ask me. Look at the mess Marty McFly caused!

Having sat down to watch those movies again recently I came to realize just how much I loved Back to the Future: Such good films, especially to take something that often leaves audiences cold, the idea of time travel problems, and make it so accessable and fun!
Plus, a snappy soundtrack you'll find yourself humming later at work and having to explain to a younger generation where it comes from.

The heresey commited in this thread is painful. Yes Nemisis was an unworthy Star Trek film since it doesn't have any of the warmth which featured strongly in the episodes.
Yet Sir Patrick Stewart and the scene where the Enterprise runs into the Scimitar alone makes it a good Star Trek film, not an epic one like some of the others; but still worthy of Star Trek.
JJ Trek is a mess if anything it was turned into a lesser Science Action movie which butchered all of the original performances done by the original cast; specifically that of James Doohan. JJ Trek is also a manipulation of the principle Philosophy of Star Trek "Seek out new life, new civlisations", which has been switched to simply 'Pew-Pew'.
This alone is reason why I can never be a fan of JJ Trek. I fear that it is going to be ruined like that of JJ's other 'hit' Lost.

I'm kind of on the fence. Though, the JJ Star Trek movie was entertaining, it was hard to feel that "Trek" feel that was present in other Star Trek movies.
To me it is kind of like what happened with Star Wars movies.
JJ Star Trek movie 1 is much like what Phantom Menace did to Star Wars. It really didn't fit with the spirit of the original movies. Felt dumbed down, cartoony... entertaining, sure. Yet really lacked the sophistication and griping story arc of their predecessors.

The first movie is one of my fav's right up there with Spaceballs. IMO it was one of the turning point movies that took Sci-Fi from "geeky" to "cool" for the 80's teens, I mean sure Han or Luke was whom you imagined ( heh or your fav Star Trek char) but Marty you could relate to. Guys wanted to be "him" and girls panted for him at the time. Plus it had Huey both as m
usic and a twobit part in it.
Hey I am old Huey was good tunes back in the day..........
I didnt mind this Star trek but I agree it didnt have that ST feel, I'll wait and see how the next one looks before I make my final judgment on JJ's fate.

I know what you mean Herm; what grilled my bacon the most was knowing Simon Pegg was playing Scotty, a guy who is best known for 'hits' such as "Run Fatboy Run" and "Hot Fuzz" - basically a walking comedy joke - and to have him traipse along and hash-up a poor-jokey Scottish accent - which, as a Scotsman I found offensive alone - it really dishonoured the memory of Doohan by turning his whole character into dumb slapstick comedy relief, which left a bitter taste in my mouth for the rest of the movie and ever since.

Really? I didn't find Scotty all that bad. Granted I'm not a Scott, so I only have so much ground to stand on (Being from New Scottland counts for 1/5th or something right? ) but it seemed really just a slight twist on the original character to me: Drunken bar fights, solving problems with alcohol, giving away tech secrets in the past, bumping his head on a beam whilst saying 'I know this ship like the back of my hand...'. I loved Doohan's character, and one of my big regrets is never getting to meet the guy and buying him a drink, but I find looking at Scotty objectively does mean Pegg's rendition isn't that far off. If you watch all the episodes again you'll find yourself wondering where 'miracle worker' actually came from
