I hate to ask this, as it sounds like I'm missing the point, but how is the magazine? From the ad it kind looks like a 6 page leaflet?

It's not massive but it is fun to read and gives some interesting bits of info about the ship. However the main focus is definitely the models as the mag isn't as big as say the old Star Trek Factfiles (anyone remember them?!)

As Terrell says it is no where near as much reading material as the Fact Files. The magazine is 20 pages if you include the front and back covers, 16 pages in total about the actual ship. In terms of the content I'm not sure any of the information is new however I doubt most fans would know all of it, since the first episode is for the Enterprise D which is probably the best known Star Trek ship I would imagine that if the level of detail remains the same across the series there will be lots of information that most fans didn't know especially about some of the less heavily featured ships.

Whether a typical issue is worth £9.99 is obviously going to be dependant on people's own valuation but based on the first issue I would say for the quality of the model and the content of the magazine £9.99 seems like a fair price, yes the publisher is going to be making a decent profit margin at that price but I think they got the price point just right.

I was going to say that you'll probably get the models cheaper elsewhere, but having had a little look around, it does look like (especially as you get the mag with it) that they are really good value.... even when the cost of the mag jumps up to around £5 after the first issue (which is common with this sort of mag)

I picked up my Enterprise D today as well, I seriously couldn't pass it up for £2. I was just coming to make a thread about the starship collection myself but I was clearly beaten to it! My first impressions are all positive, it's a perfect size to sit on my computer desk without being obstructive in any way and definitely looks the part. I'll certainly be subscribing to the rest of the series.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone had any issues with their edition, such as arriving damaged etc?

Mine's in the mail since mrs Colly failed to find one at our local newsagents but I get the Batmobile collection from the same company. One arrived with a crack in the display case and they replaced it without any fuss.

I spoke to the people that run this collection and they said that the method by which they post is as follows: they post both copies for the month, on the first release date in that month (i.e. Enterprise Refit - Sept 6th ish - is the release date) that is when both the refit AND the next issue are sent, but they are sent to arrive within 21 days instead of ASAP.

So patience is sadly a necessity

In a way, it's lucky that I'm not subscribed then. I don't have to deal with a month long wait in between issues
I do however want the Galaxy X model, so I may eventually have to walk that road.

Earlier on I picked up the 2nd issue of the starships collection from my local news agents. Despite my concerns about a possible drop in quality/effort after the first discounted issue I was pleasantly surprised. The Enterprise Refit model although (obviously) smaller than the Enterprise D is it's equal in build quality. Overall, I'm really pleased and still think that for the increased price these sets will be worth it. If anyone is still on the fence about picking up the 2nd issue I highly recommend you go pick one up

Anybody pick up the 3rd issue today? I'm pretty impressed with the Bird of Prey. My only issue with the model is that I'd have preferred it with it's wings lowered and prepared for combat. Other than that, I'm rather pleased

Sorry to keep resurrecting this thread, but how many members are still picking this up? I'm on my 4th issue, which is the NX class Enterprise. I've been so impressed so far that I have now subscribed to have them delivered. I'm seriously looking forward to the first special edition, which is going to be a large DS9!

I received my 4th and 5th issues a couple of weeks ago, along with my Enterprise D dedication plaque (Mrs. Colly and I are currently debating whether that is a more appropriate centerpiece for our mantle than her china figurine. I am currently winning but do not expect to for long...).

I've been very impressed with the quality of the models and have them on display in the living room (another discussion that Mrs. Colly will probably win in the end). The magazines are larger and more detailed than the ones I get with the Batmobiles and while it's all old news to me, they're still nice to read.

If you're in the UK and havn't picked these up yet, do it! If you're not in the UK I hope yu get them soon.

Hehe, I already have a contingency plan. My basement has been sealed and wired ready for decorating, along with some cans of paint and a carpet that might remind one of the colour scheme in Picard's ready room ;p

Just need my leg to heal so I can get down there and start working on it.
