CREATING YOUR CHARACTER
Now once you've downloaded and installed the game you'll want to create your character, to do this simply head to the main screen, and at the bottom you should see a PLAYER SETTINGS button, which you should click to bring up the Character menu, once there you should see something like this,



Now when your in this menu there are a few things that you should be doing, firstly selecting a model that fits your character, so select the PLAYER MODEL button and you should see a menu like this,



You'll see a list of available models down the left hand side, selecting one is the first step. The next step would be to select the color of the uniform or outfit, you can do this by clicking on the SKIN button and selecting the color of your choosing, you'll also find a MODEL button which is used to change the models outfit, for example if I wanted my character to be using an Admirals uniform apposed to the default uniform.

Next up would be giving your character a name, heading back to the PLAYER SETTINGS menu you'll see a box at the very top showing your characters name, within roleplays we tend to include our position within our name to make it easy, so for example if I was the CO of the ship I'd write my name as such,



So that when I hit enter it appears like this,



For alternate roles I'd use the following infront of my name,

^1XO^7 >NAME< - for the Executive Officer
^1HELM^7 >NAME< - for the Conn Officer
^3CTO^7 >NAME< - for the Chief Tactical Officer
^3CE^7 >NAME< - for the Chief Engineer
^5CMO^7 >NAME< - for the Chief Medical Officer
^5CSO^7 >NAME< - for the Chief Science Officer

^3SEC^7 >NAME< - for Security Officers
^3ENG^7 >NAME< - for Engineering Officers
^5MED^7 >NAME< - for Medical Officers
^5SCI^7 >NAME< - for Science Officers

EMOTES
To use emotes you simply have to hit ESC to open up the main menu, head to the emotes menu, filter through which ones you'd like to use (I'd recommend having at least one or two console and sit commands, and maybe a few lying down or injured.) and then simply click the emote and assign a hotkey.

HOW TO SPEAK
Within the game there are several different ways to chat, you have your global channel, your local channel, and then private messages.
During roleplays we tend to stick to global (T) to ensure that every member attending is in on the action, however if your character is in Engineering and you see something in chat being said on the Bridge, do not act upon it unless someone on the Bridge has hailed you on the Comms.

Moving onto the next part, Comms systems; when using the Comms system for any manor for example hailing another ship or another member of the crew on another deck, use the following tags =^= to show that your using the Comms systems, as you can see below the use of these tags in action.



Lastly private messages, you'll find that during the roleplay these tend to only be sent by the GM to nudge members in the right direction of the story if needed and also tend to be OOC. To do this, use the command /tell <clientID> <message> , the clientID is the little number next to the players name when you hit tab or if your in close proximity to them.

CONNECTING TO THE UFP SERVER

Now to connect to the server you will need to ensure that you have patched your game client, details on how to do that can be found within this thread. Once that's done simply open up your console with the tilda key (`) and type in /connect rpgx.ufplanets.com or use the direct IP which is 91.121.207.102

SERVER RULES
Your now able to connect to the UFP server, as such you need to be aware of the various rules in place to ensure that everyone who uses the server walks away having had the best experience that they could of had whilst on our server.

No random killing (RDM)
No plot hijacking.
Do not randomly press buttons on consoles.
Walk instead of running on servers during Roleplays.
Do not jump around excessively.
Do not wield a phaser or a phaser rifle during non-combat situations.
Always use brackets () for OOC (out of character) chat.

If an Admin believes you are killing people for no reason you will be warned, if you carry on to do so you will be kicked and perhaps banned if the Admin deems it. If someone kills you on purpose and without anything to do with the roleplay, DO NOT try and kill them back as it only makes the situation worse, the player who killed you will be dealt with in time by an Admin.

TIPS AND TRICKS
When roleplaying keep in mind that there are always nice little ways to increase the authenticity of the roleplay, for example if you're cought in a fire fight with a boarding party, try to avoid shooting at them directly, as a real boarding attempt wouldn't be over in a few seconds because the Security Officers have an excellent shot.

Also when playing a Security Officer or maybe when your character is selected for an away team, ensure that your equipment belt is shown, naturally this isn't bound to any key, so go into your settings>configure>commands select equip belt and bind it to a key, then hit the key to show your belt.

When playing a medical staff member try and come up with some creative names for the medicine that your giving to your dying comrade in the biobed, and if you can't come up with any there is always this handy link.

Good strong guide about how to set up and get started also maybe write a guide on performance as this game my look old it does have it fair share of lets say I am not working under the new windows 8 etc so we have run it under certain modes , brings back old memory's of in chat =/\=

how do I download the quick fix?

Currently the emotes menu crashes players to the desktop if they try to access it, however we have alternatives; one of which being a basic configuration that has standard emotes bound to it such as sitting emotes and console emotes.

To download the partial fix download this file, once done drop it into your RPG-X2 folder which can be found somewhere like this C:\Users\owner\AppData\Roaming\STVEF\RPG-X2, once that's done launch your game and open up the console by hitting the tilda key (`), then proceed to type in /exec basic this will bind your keys to basic emotes and ensure you can get the most out of any roleplay.

Ah, it seems when the files were moved the file itself broke somehow, I remember Laz had to tweak the file a little so that when you clicked on it you'd download it instead of open it. I'll try and get that fixed pronto

Excellent guide, RPG-X downloaded and working correctly. Went on a tour of one of the federation star ships, I must say the love and attention that has gone into them is exquisite.

I am looking forward to spending a majority of my time drinking coffee black from the replicators, when not crawling around the Jefferey tubes or monitoring the readouts in engineering (wondering if coffee black can be exchanged for tea, earl grey?).

says np acce3s t the pathway must be admin etc etc i did that still gets same message
even tried installing to my normal elite force folder still no joy any ideas?

If it is saying you should be admin try running the install and the program with administrator mode enabled, to do that:

right click the program
select 'run as administrator'

If you are still having issues go HERE and click the new issue button on the top right then fill in as much detail as you can and it will get looked in to for you.
