Recently we had a Dr. Who cross-over with the TNG crew and the Enterprise-D, the next cross-over is with Planet of the Apes, more details here. I am not a comic reader but a cross-over with the Planet of the Apes seems just daft...
What's peoples opinion on cross-over comics? Is there a cross-over that goes too far? or is there a cross-over you would really like to see?

Personally, I liked the Dr Who/TNG crossover, that did make some sense as it would be possible for it to happen, you know because wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey
But I can't see planet of the apes making much sense for a crossover with Star Trek, there are many that I would rule out as crossovers that I would be interested in. I like Red Dwarf but that wouldn't fit in well with the Star Trek universe in my opinion. Overall I have no problem with crossovers but they both have to thematically fit with the backstory of each so they complement each other.

In the words of Bob 'Movie Bob' Chipman (if you aren't familiar with him look him up he is quite entertaining) "Comics are weird!"
Some crossovers are just weird, the Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover was something that seemed somewhat plausible relatively speaking but then you have crossovers like Star Trek and X-Men and Star Trek and the Planet of the Apes and the suspension of disbelief is stretched to breaking point.
It's slightly funny though when you think about all the things in Star Trek or in other properties that we as fans will readily accept, in Star Trek we accept lots of things that are very different from the reality we know but we accept them because of how they are sold to us and how they fit in with the show, the same in shows like Doctor Who, the first time it is explained how the TARDIS is bigger on the inside is a seemingly ludicrous explanation where the Doctor basically explains that it works the same as how a distant object appears smaller but it is delivered in such a way by a character who you already accept is hundreds of years old and a master of time and space that you just accept it. It's exactly the same in many superhero movies, within half an hour of Iron Man for example we accept that Tony Stark could somehow create a suit of powered armour out of missile components whilst being under 24 hour surveillance and no-one figured out what he is doing, it's insane but it is sold to us well enough that we can allow ourselves to accept it.
We can accept all of that but find it hard to accept two different properties coming together. The problem with this sort of crossover is that we are being asked to accept two different bunches of seemingly impossible things and not only that but things that exist in totally different universes, the universe of Star Trek is not the universe of Doctor Who so marrying the two can make things hard for people to accept as the fans know so much about those universes because of how well the lore has been established that they know the two don't or just can't co-exist.
The writers know as well as the reader does that the crossover couldn't happen if keeping totally true to the lore but they, like the reader, are interested in the idea of 'what if?'. Ultimately I think anyone reading these sorts of crossovers has to do so with an open mind and ideally has to be a fan of both properties and have the ability to be able to say to yourself "I know it isn't canon but I'm interested in the story", that should allow you to enjoy the crossover even if that voice in the back of your head is telling you it shouldn't be able to happen.
For the Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover I could do that, for Star Trek and Planet of the Apes... yeah I think I would give that a miss as well.

i read the crossover with the DC universe. It was pretty intresting but confusing aswell
I thought the crossover with the WHO was really cool to be honest. but i cannot comment on the Planet of the apes one since i haven't heard about that.

So I read the Dr Who/TNG crossover, I'll be honest I wasn't too impressed. I think the premise was sound but parts were just silly, much of it was ok but I think my real problem was I was comparing it too much to a novel. I read the series in about an hour which was ridiculously quick for a story and because it wasn't written much of the detail was skipped or missing. Overall I felt underwhelmed and I think much of that was down to the medium rather than the plot, I think that's just down to my own personal preference to novels over graphic novels.

Unfortunately, I am stuck with graphical or audio versions of stories, so I don't have a lot to compare to. Though I know there are a few better comics out there, I would have picked the recent humble bundle up if I had a medium to read them on (PC and a phone are not comfortable to read comics for me!). Perhaps I may in future pick some other graphic stories up, though crossovers, might avoid unless it sounds like it works

I don't think there should be any more of these cross-over comics, they bring together things that I like and ruin them as there stories are a bit mental, but each to there own..

Good crossovers rule. Take Batman for example. Batman/Spawn, Batman/Spiderman, Bruce Wayne, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Batman vs Grendel, Batman vs Predator, Batman/Judge Dredd, Batman vs Aliens, Batman and Superman vs Aliens vs Predator.... there are crossovers that go too far but all in all seeing an alien baring joker smile and teeth makes up for it.

Some crossovers are good. Just depends on your opinion and if you like it or not.
The Dr Who & TNG crossover was good. I didn't mind reading it.

general change as a yellow lantern, praetor decius as an orange lantern....theres so much complete insanity in just the first 2 issues its funny. its a bit absurd really but i think itll be fun. besides, if you like trek comics this is you only avenue as its the only trek still being made

There is a Star Trek / X-Men crossover. I think it's 2 novels. Called Star TreX. I couldn't help myself. I read them in high school. Picture this, Angel flying through the corridors, almost running into Captain Picard, who tells him to go to the holodeck. Yeah. It happened.

I think there were a couple of ToS/X-Men crossover comics and a TNG/X-Men novel. I seem to recall the TNG one having a joke where Storm I think points out that Picard looks a bit like Xavier as at the time there were rumours which turned out to be true of Patrick Stewart being cast as Xavier in the X-Men movies.
