It seems we won't be discovering this new series until May.
I was a bit concerned with how little information there seemed to be about its production, but now I'm disappointed it got pushed back.

I am a little disappointed with the push back, but at the same time, if it means getting a higher quality production then I am happy with that! Especially considering that they were giving themselves 4/5 months to shoot, edit and complete all 13 episodes in time for airing, clearly wasn't going to be enough time to give us anything that is quality TV. Considering how little CBS/Paramount have done for the 50th anniversary, they need to make Discovery brilliant - no pressure...

Agreed, the time frame always seemed a bit too constrained, hopefully this extra time will allow for a better quality end product.
And when did Trek turn 50! have I missed something... No wait its CBS/Paramount that have missed a trick here

From everything I've read and heard from both Bryan Fuller and the fan theories and speculation I'm cautiously optimistic about the series. I'm waiting to hear a more detailed series synopsis and casting news and to see the final design of the Discovery before I allow myself to get to excited.
Edit: I guess Fuller is stepping down

He's not stepping down, just taking a less hands-on role. He's still going to be there and involved, but not as much as was originally planned/he has been so far.

Hopefully, the series won't end up being produced "by committee". Not having dedicated production leadership would be the kiss of death, in my opinion.
It's interesting to note that the series lead will be a woman (yay!). I've always wanted to see someone on the order of Tricia O'Neil, who played Rachel Garrett commanding the Enterprise-C on TNG, in a lead role. I never saw Kate Mulgrew as Janeway bring a command presence to the role of captain in the way Tricia O'Neil seemed to.

I personally think Kate Mulgrew did a fantastic job of being captain and I actually think that an episodic layout to Voyager much as what is suggested for discovery rather than the one story one episode approach in most other series? Voyager could have been so much more!

It just hit me what Star Trek: Discovery is going to be about...I bet the USS Discovery is NX-04 and its impact on the Four Years War.
"Set 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series...Discovery explores a previously mentioned event from the history of Star Trek while following the crew of the USS Discovery."
"The season-long storyline revolves around "an incident and an event in Star Trek history that's been talked about but never been explored"."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star+T...ry?wprov=sfla1
I bet that's the Four Years War; "the war began with the Battle of Axanar on Stardate 2251.241 (29 August 2251), and lasted until the Treaty of Axanar was signed on Stardate 2255.164 (13 June 2255)."
http://trekipedia.com/file/Four_Years_War
"If the NX Project continued to use the names of NASA space shuttles in sequence after Enterprise and Columbia, the NX-03 and NX-04 would have been named Challenger and Discovery, respectively."
