Well, yes humans are rather kooky and crazy mad scientists sometimes, but I think that the poster is forgetting a particular Vulcan named Mr. Spock. Who got stuck on a "hoth" like planet because he was inventing "red-matter" and a darling little ship to go with it, just to make a black hole to go back in time to get this guy "Nero" and talks to his younger self to ease the young Cpt. kirk and himself. (Star trek 2009) If that isn't weird I don't know what is. So another words it isn't just Humans that are so called "deranged hyper-neophiles" but seems a rather harsh term to me. I prefer eccentric myself.

How do we know those rampat hologram and warp core malfunctions and accidentally-traveling-back-in-time incidents only happen to Federation, specifically Starfleet, vessels? I bet the other governments have also had the same problems. We only know about the occurrences in Starfleet because that is the series' focus.

I believe you mean the half-Vulcan, half-Human named Mr. Spock. Even half-Human is enough to get the “hold my beer” gene. Notice that Spock routinely does things other Vulcans must think is nuts.
