Q is possibly one of the most discussed reoccurring characters and appeared in many Star Trek episodes, causing trouble here and there, sometimes for a productive goal. In the one audio book I listened to with Q in, he caused a lot more damage than he ever did in the show, he seemed more, evil. But, if we look at him on screen only, did you enjoy the episodes he was in or dislike them?

He is an arrogant windbag, but he's generally instigated development among the crew in some way. I like the episodes, with the crew overcoming obstacles and challenges that wouldn't be possible without Q's meddling.
It was also fun when Q became mortal. The "change the gravitational constant of the universe" method of problem solving (which prompted LaForge's solution), the panic over losing consciousness (sleep), and Guinan stabbing him with a fork. Plus when he regained his abilities he went and solved their problem for them since LaForge's solution didn't work.
He's never seemed malevolent in the show.

I think Q is a fantastic character, whilst many of his actions might not be agreeable (he has done some pretty bad stuff) he is often a lovable rogue and the chemistry he has with Picard is fantastic.
If you are a fan of the Q character then the Q&A book is a must read, it does a really good job of better explaining Q's interactions with humanity including some events in Star Trek lore he had a hand in where we never saw his direct involvement. It also reveals a lot more about why he has taken such an interest in the human race.

I agree with everything Chris said, it is such a good book!

He's never seemed malevolent in the show.
I suspect he was simply honoring his earlier commitment to Picard to help them solve the problem...
"But I don't have any powers... but I have the knowledge"
I suspect he felt the debt should be repaid once his powers were restored. Picard was very adamant in another later episode, saying the one thing he's never been is a liar.
"Picard I think you've found my one redeeming quality"
While we don't know for certain LaForge solution didn't work, he did push the moon before knocked into low Orbit. Still I'd agree, Q's frustration for what LaForge was attempting, suggests it would have failed. As Jordon's suggests Q is often unpredictable and mischievous (still he doesn't cause problems on their own - often a moral lesson / better long term result - the trial never ends) if he always acted as the perfect role model; he would not be evaluating them for their own merits.
"If we are to be damned, lets be damned for who we really are" --Picard, Encounter at Farpoint.
It also makes things interesting (good for TV) to see how they respond. I honestly belief Q took many lesson's from Quinn's Philosophy having helped Human's at different stages to get a helping nudge at times. I loved his character. I presume if you had his knowledge, experience, and some might even say wisdom / intelligence. I suspect the frustrating part is finding creative ways to draw out / encourage that with those of far more limited understanding.
As a result we see the slightly mischievous side as he simply tries to have a little fun in the process.

If I look at Q overall then I'd say I liked him, didn't like his first appearence as much though.

At first I found him quite annoying and irritating and the fact that there was nothing that could be done to prevent his appearances or actions was so frustrating. As his character developed I started to like his mischievous nature. After all, he was merely trying to assist a pitiful species.
