I just went through the youtube posts and almost every second post criticizes the fact that they decided to make just another prequel.. I had even before archer's enterprise that strong feeling that a prequel is unnecessary and was solely introduced because of star wars. Nobody seems to want or is enthusiastic about prequels so why are they so stubbornly insisting on it?

Fix? If that's a reference to the direction Star Wars took, then it's not going to matter because JJ Abrams already had a shot at Star Trek and, well, it's not very Star Trek! All the franchise needs is to move on from the past, keep going with the timeline that is established, though it's going to have to be significantly after Voyager, since the actors have aged a fair bit now.

I think no matter what they should stop with trying to show us before. They already did with Enterprise and really need to move forward from there. If they have to fill in the gap between that and Star Trek the original series then do it or perhaps they need to start after Voyager. I mean they are just trying to grasp for straws that don't exist. I mean this is just something that is getting irritating.

The way I saw the choice of time frames for the series was that, the tone of Trek in terms of popularity is set by TOS and TNG and every other off shoot has been at most one step/generation away from TOS and TNG era time frame wise. Doing another prequel is just another feel good time frame for the producers to feel like they're close enough to one of TOS or TNG that they feel they cannot err.

But I agree, it is time to really consider and get serious about the future past VOY because that's where they can really innovate, take the risk and get it right again.

For that they need serious Trekkers, trek has become a behemoth in terms of what the canon offers. So only a seriously committed person really can continue to be true to the canon and still stay in the same universe and also innovate with sequel series. Not to forget the story writers feeling constrained by the trek canon which is already established.

This I believe was the chief reason for JJ choosing to reboot and create a whole new time line. It was far easier to do that (have you looked at how much of a rip off reboot was story wise...).

That means a sequel is simply quite hard to produce without a seriously committed person.

They could colonize the Andromeda galaxy in 25th century. They could make it sort of like what we believe how it was for the first american settlers. Issues of the olden days like surviving the winter or finding food and water but transformed into issues of the 25th century with awesome new tech? I'm thinking about a new enterprise which explores the unknown and at the same time has the mission to help building a giant colony and starbase for the federation to gain a foothold in the andromeda galaxy. And what if the natives were not american indians but religious fanatics, for example? Could be among other things an excellent vessel to portrait nowadays issues. They could reach the andromeda galaxy through a massive one-way warp jump or something? Even when that would be close to voyager it would still be a 1000 times more appealing to me than all this prequel mumbo jumbo..

Coupling the struggle of trying to build a foundation in a new world with 25-26th century starfleet sounds quite interesting to me!

I am desperately missing all those little 'one episode adventures' from TOS + TNG. Nowadays, there always seems to be some sort of great war, doomsday weapon or prequel setup and I am so tired of that..

Considering that disney decided to portrait the events after Return of the Jedi I think the only logical conclusion must be that they think that we think that Kirk-era was the best and most recognizable to sell merchandise to the broadest audience possible?

I agree Scoop, they could use a zero point module to warp there. Than encounter and defeat or better yet have an Andromeda Accord with the Ori. Then they could together build a colony with a floating city that has transwarp beaming to get back to Earth. (Not making fun, just having some. [emoji41] ) Seriously though I think the Titan storyline would be nice to see even if someone else had to play certain lead characters.

whaa? Did me saying 'massive one-way warp jump' make you think about stargate, cause google suggests that 'ori' and 'zero point module' is apparently exactly that? But yeah, I assume you talk about riker and the uss titan? That would, indeed, be straightforward. However, keep in mind that that again would require writers with extensive knowledge of star trek lore. Considering what was portrayed in the youtube video writers like bryan fuller are apparently hard to come by nowadays and stories such as riker's and the uss titan would probably require just that as long as it takes place in the known quadrants. My reasoning was that andromeda would allow writers more creative freedom which makes it a possible pragmatic solution considering the circumstances.

There isn't, for example, not too much known about the Kelvan Empire which they could encounter there.
