I have seen a number of people ask questions about giveaways recently, so I am making this thread to help explain why we run them the way we do. If you have any questions, you can respond to this thread or send me a message and I will answer it.

Every so often, we have a raffle, which is an allocated number of codes issued to the UFP to giveaway. We run it as a free-for-all, anyone who has an account can sign up, regardless of how old that account it. A number of other websites run raffles in a similar way, some of them require you to sign up to their social media or other forms of getting entries, we don't.

We do have plans for raffles limited to members who joined before the raffle before it started, these would be special raffles that we put money into. So like a raffle at the end of the year, there is a plan for that.

In short, if the codes are allocated to us to giveaway, then we do an open raffle for everyone, while if we have to purchase the stuff to giveaway, it will be limited.

Three, what happens when someone tries to sign-up for a giveaway with multiple accounts? How do we monitor that?

There are various checking methods to check if people do sign up multiple times for a giveaway.

For those raffles that are fleet funded, how much do you spend on those?
Also, I have an idea for doing this for physical prizes.

Any raffle that is fleet funded would show up in the Financial Reports, that's all I can really say, since we haven't run one in some years and none under my leadership yet. We have given out Amazon Gift Vouchers as prizes for events, those also get recorded.

I'm wondering if there's any statistics on how many new members a giveaway attracts and how many of those new members keep visiting the site after the giveaways end. I think that metrics like those would be, at the least, fascinating. It would also be convenient to know how the new members that a giveaway attracts learned of the giveaway. It might give insight into which kinds of giveaway attracts which kind of 'memnbers' and help targeting the giveaways and the publicity for them to the kind of 'members' the UFPlanets prefers to attract.

That would be hard to know since we don't have anything in place to track people signing up to enter a giveaway, there's no real way to tell if they joined to enter a raffle or joined just to become a member. Unless you ask them on the registration form, but I think that's collecting too much information that we don't really need to collect. It would be interesting to know statistically, but I don't think it's very practical to implement.
